What’s roleplay? “It’s a nerd thing.” “You have to be a writer.” “You have to be really creative.” “You have to know everything there is to know about Star Trek and scifi.”
Not really.
Roleplaying is a way of digging deep into the fantastic imagination stored in your brain, the very heart and soul of every human being. It lets you can bring your ideas and fantasies, and give them life, without having to be a perfect writer, a long-studied artist, or a complete know-it-all. From World of Warcraft to Star Trek Online, roleplaying is everywhere we look in the gaming world. But by coming here today, you’ve come upon a place where even the sky isn’t the limit. Ever watched Star Trek and wondered what’s just around that corner? Today’s the day you find out. Come on in and step into the shoes of a living entity within the Star Trek universe, itself. Enter a world of endless creativity, imagination and possibilities.
Imagine
The difference between acting and roleplay (besides the obvious clues in their titles) is that you aren’t given a script, and most of the time, you’re going to create your own character to play. Since for the most part, you’re going to be taking on a role within the Star Trek universe, let’s just stick with that for now and put your imagination to work. As an example of a typical roleplay, imagine that you have been given the chance to join the crew of a Starfleet ship out there in the vastness of space. What would be your dream role? Human or Alien? Scientist or Security? Crewman or Captain? What type of crewman and person would you be? The possibilities are endless – and with The Last Outpost and RPG-X, they become closer to life than ever before.
Create
The Last Outpost (that’s this very site right here) uses one special tool to bring your roleplaying ideas to life: RPG-X (a guide to RPG-X can be found at the bottom of this page). The ideas in your head about what role your character will take, as well as the type of person they will be will be the factors that define your character while roleplaying – and to that end, you can customize everything from your age to your physical appearence. If you want to be a snivelling Ferengi, make yourself look like one – it’s just all part of the fun and immersion the world of roleplaying has to offer. But it’s not just your character’s present and future that matter – you can also create their past. A backstory is a powerful tool which adds a whole new level of depth to a character – so use it wisely. Where did they come from? How did they get to where they are today? Who have they met along the way? Don’t be afraid to tell a few stories of your past, no matter how irrelevant you may think they are at the time… you never know what may become of it.
Partake
