Accessing STO Chat

Red Alert!
Before using this tutorial please make sure you have the prerequisites!

Prerequisites:
An XMPP chat client (For the tutorial I will use Pidgin) – http://www.pidgin.im/
Access to the Tribble Test Server and Tribble forums (http://www.startrekonline.com/test-shard/character-transfer)

Hello everyone. This will allow you access to the TLO channel, other channels and indeed been able to talk to people in your friends list and see if they’re online.

So without further ado, let’s begin.

First of all download your chat client, there will be a lot of them out there which support this feature, but I will be using Pidgin as that is the one I’m used to
When Pidgin is downloaded and installed you’ll get a screen like this

Select ‘Accounts’ from the top, then go on Manage Accounts, which will give you this screen

Click on add then use the following settings

After that click add and you should be set up with your friends list and the online members of any fleets you are in. However you will be unable to join the fleet chats but you can join the channels we have, for example “TLO”.

How to do such a wonderful thing? Simple.
1. Click on Buddies>Join a Chat
2. On the Join a Chat dialog add the following:
a. Account:
b. Room:
c. Server: channels.crypticspace.com
3. Click Join!

So for example to join “TLO” you’d type “TLO” in the Room box. But for a channel with a space, for example ‘Deep Space Nine’, the premier OOC RP channel, where anything is possible (we usually get naked and run away from elephants… :P) to join it you’d have to type ‘deep+space+nine’ so basically any spaces become +’s.

And that is all, if you require anything else, you may look here for the official topic by the overlords (requires Tribble forum access) or just post in the Engineering section on the forums and I’ll try get back to you :)
