The Last Outpost's rank system is slightly different than that of other groups. Here you'll find our ranks mostly based on recognition of time served as an active member of the community rather than power and prestige. Since ranks are generally solely based on time in the community, we hope members not place too much of a focus on rank.

Please note that in order to calculate time served, IA looks at the time spent relatively active in the community. The exact measure is at the IA head's discretion, but generally involves logging into the forum at least once every few days, posting at least once or twice a month, and logging into our games at least on occasion. If a member returns from a period of long inactivity, they may find their rank unchanged and they will not be eligible for promotion until they have spent sufficient time being "active" in their current rank to advance to the next one. If you have any questions, please contact Criminula.

New TLO Member
This is the starting rank for a new registered user on our forum and serves as a probationary rank until a new member has been active in the community for 2-4 weeks. New members may also be promoted out of this group after they reach 10 posts on the forums. New TLO Membrs are entitled to all the rights and privileges of a TLO member, but are not eligible to vote in election polls until they exit this status.

Recruit
After being sufficiently active in the community for 2-4 weeks (ie, making a forum post or two, introducing yourself in the forums, participating in-game, etc.), members will be promoted to this rank.

Chief
Members will be promoted to this rank after being active in the community for 3-4 months via the forums and/or gaming. Special considerations may be made for in-game merit or contributions to the community.

Provisional Officer
Members will be promoted to this rank after being active in the community for 6-12 months via the forums and/or gaming. Special considerations may be made for in-game merit or contributions to the community.

Junior Officer
Members will be promoted to this rank after being active in the community for 1.5-2 years via the forums and/or gaming. Special considerations may be made for in-game merit or contributions to the community.

Officer
Members will be promoted to this rank after being active in the community for 2-3 years via the forums and/or gaming. Special considerations may be made for in-game merit or contributions to the community.

Senior Officer
This rank is for members who have been a part of the community for an extended period of time, and made a significant mark on it. Such an officer acts as a "mentor" to newer members, and this rank serves as recognition for their contributions to the community.

Captain
This rank is similar to Senior Officer, though it shows a member has made a profound mark on the community. They have contributed significantly to TLO's growth. This is the highest standard rank a member of TLO can hold.

Special Ranks:

President
The Executive, or "face" of the community, who has certain powers to oversee the smooth day to day operations of the group, and to take action when needed to deal with emergencies.

Division/Department Heads
Any member elected to a Cabinet level position as a division/department head is given a special rank denoting their position within the community. This rank supersedes any rank they held before the position, and once they leave the position, the IA head will determine a rank reflecting their time served in TLO and their contributions to the community. If a Division/Department head held and Elder Statesperson position before entering the position, they will revert back to the Elder Statesperson group.

Elder Statesperson
This rank is for past members of the leadership who contributed significantly to TLO. They are honored with a special title, and retain certain special access to TLO's services. This title can only be conferred by the President through Executive Order, or by a majority vote of the Cabinet.

Retired Officer
This rank is given to members who have decided to retire. These officers maintain close to full member's access to the board, but can not participate or vote in elections or the governance forums. If they wish to return to active status in the group, the IA head will decide at what rank they should be reinstated.

VIP
VIP status is given to respected ambassadors from other groups whom we have formal communications with. VIPs will have access to most of the forums, even though they are not members. VIP status may also be give to prominent members in the Star Trek gaming community who are not ambassadors, at the discretion of the Cabinet.

Member-in-Chief
An honorary rank created by the Cabinet to honor Jenson, one of the founders and the first President of The Last Outpost. This rank also carries with it all the rights and privileges of an Elder Statesperson, as well as granting full administrative access to TLO's services/games.

Non-TLO Member
As membership is granted to members upon registering on our forums, this is a special group for anyone who wishes to "opt out" of TLO membership because of a wish to explicitly resign from TLO, being in a group that wouldn't allow them to be a TLO member, or for individuals who simply don't want to be a part of the community formally, but who would like to interact with us. In the rare situation where the IA head may deny a person's entry into TLO due to exceptional circumstances, an individual may also be placed in this group so they can participate in some of our discussions without full membership.

Persons in the Non-TLO member group have limited access to the forum, and can not see sensitive forums including the governance and election boards.
