Roleplaying in STO is quite possible. Many features are quite similar to what you might do in RPG-X, although slightly different. Follow along as this guide shows the elements and essentials to STO RP. Not everything in this guide is required, but recommended for the best experience possible. If you're having trouble, need help with something, or want me to cover something in this guide, please post below. Thank you!

1). Creating your Roleplay Window
This is optional, however it will allow for a less cluttered chatbox and a more to the point presentation for your RPs.

First you will need a new chat window, specifically for roleplaying. To create a chat window, right click on the "Chat" button as indicated in the image below:

This will bring up the Chat Options menu. Click "Add a New Tab"

Click on the new tab. Now, rename "ChatX (Chat2, 3, etc)" to Roleplaying, RP, or whatever you might prefer. Once this step is complete, go down to "Game Channels."

The ESSENTIAL Game Channels you need to keep are  Emotes, Tell, Local, Fleet, Officer, Team. Zone chat will not be used for Roleplaying. Remove all other game channels by clicking on the check marks. Once completed, scroll to Custom Channels.

You may designate any Custom Channel you prefer. I recommend to uncheck all custom channels except "LastOutpost". This will be our primary RP channel and Fleet Channel. This is an absolute requirement. To join this channel, type /channel_join LastOutpost in chat.

You should have something like this:

Finally, all chat channels by default are white, or a standard color. in the Channels to Display list, you can color these channels to your liking. By now you should have a new tab in your chatbox, and you're done!
