The away team was sent over to the Krowtonan vessel as requested, but a malfunction in the thruster system forced the Amarante to pull out of orbit. Meanwhile, the Krowtonans experienced a serious malfunction of their own as tetryon particles from previously undeclared combat damage began to compromise their warp reactor. Muri managed to stabilize the overload long enough for everyone to be evacuated safely to the Amarante.

Unfortunately, the damage to the ship's power systems that had accumulated over previous episodes prevented the ship from escaping the blast radius of the Krowtonan vessel's warp core breach. The shockwave knocked the ship back into a decaying orbit, but fortunately, the crew was able to stabilize their descent and climb back to a safe altitude.

Shortly after, Krowtonan ships arrived in response to the Amarante's distress call, commending the crew for their selflessness and affirming that they were acting in good faith. Having satisfied the Krowtonans' concerns, they invited Captain Tolendo aboard to begin drafting a resupply agreement.

Meanwhile, in Sickbay, Chef appeared to ask Doctor Bertrand about the medical records of their guests. The Doctor saw this as a perfect opportunity to ask Chef about why so many crew members experienced intestinal distress after eating in the mess hall. Chef was oddly pleased by this, and revealed that he had been dosing the crew's meals with sorbitol, an artificial sweetener that acts as a powerful laxative. He had been concerned about the crew's stress levels during their long-range spacefaring assignment, noting that stress leads to constipation and can cause digestive problems, and he intended to perform the same service for their guests. Doctor Bertrand managed to convince Chef to avoid dosing their guests, and to reduce the amount of sorbitol he used in food preparation.
