Unhappy with Starfleet's ability to respond to incidents of ships in distress following the Dominion War, the Federation Cargo Service decided to go back to the drawing board and commissioned the Utopia Planitia Shipyards to develop a vessel capable of transporting thousands of tons of ore quickly across vast distances, with the added benefit of not being completely helpless in a fight. The result is the F.C.S. Endurance, the first ship of its class. With new warp field amplifier technology increasing its loaded maximum speed dramatically, ablative monotanium hull armor defending its holds, and armaments comparable to a Sabre-class starship, the Endurance is the most formidable and efficient freighter in the quadrant, crewed by the best and brightest freight haulers the Federation has to offer.

This is one side of a story of two halves. A look into how the politics of the Federation and its military actions affect the honest, working people outside of council chambers and captain's chairs, helmed by the man behind Star Trek: The Lost Era and Star Trek: Full Circle.

The Endurance has been contracted by Starfleet Sciences to haul ore samples, supplies, and commodities back and forth between its new research station Asteria and Deep Space Nine. For the first six months of the operation, things have been going smoothly. New friendships have formed, an amicable working relationship has been established... but a recent theft of ore from the station's holds changed everything.

Now, Starfleet has taken a greater interest in the area. Old tensions from the Dominion War, thought to be forgotten, are inflamed by new, cumbersome security measures. Meanwhile, across the Neutral Zone, a situation seems to be brewing that could have galaxy-wide ramifications, and the crew of the Endurance may be caught in the crossfire.
