The Last Outpost's Shared Universe is a new frontier in RPG-X serials, leveraging our community's unique strength of multiple servers and growing membership to create two new series running simultaneously under the same continuity. Up until now, every series has largely been self-contained within its own universe, but now, we aim to offer one universe with a story experienced from multiple perspectives.

Endurance and Asteria, based on and set aboard the maps created by esteemed map maker GriffinEndurance, will follow the tales of a Federation freighter crew and a Starfleet science station in the Romulan Neutral Zone in the year 2387. The story will involve scientific intrigue, political upheaval, profit and loss, and the human condition.

Unhappy with Starfleet's ability to respond to incidents of ships in distress following the Dominion War, the Federation Cargo Service decided to go back to the drawing board and commissioned the Utopia Planitia Shipyards to develop a vessel capable of transporting thousands of tons of ore quickly across vast distances, with the added benefit of not being completely helpless in a fight. The result is the F.C.S. Endurance, the first ship of its class. With new warp field amplifier technology increasing its loaded maximum speed dramatically, ablative monotanium hull armor defending its holds, and armaments comparable to a Sabre-class starship, the Endurance is the most formidable and efficient freighter in the quadrant, crewed by the best and brightest freight haulers the Federation has to offer.

Asteria is a newly constructed Federation science station nestled on the edge of the Romulan Neutral Zone, assigned to research a new element found in the rings of a gas giant by a passing freighter crew during the Dominion War. In order to aid in their research, the station has been equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and computer systems, including a new artificial intelligence-driven main computer. Their findings have the potential to completely revolutionize virtually every aspect of society, or ruin it, making the station and its crew a very inviting target to their neighbors.

These two series are written with crossover potential in mind, and our servers have been upgraded with in-game transporter functionality to beam between servers to facilitate this. Additionally, this will serve as the testbed for the new RPG-X companion, a traditional tabletop roleplaying-style skill system, in an attempt to make players' interactions with the universe more varied and dynamic.

The series are scheduled for Sundays at 1:00 PM EDT / 6:00 PM UTC and will debut in May 2018.
