A quantum phase disturbance occurs in an area of space-time where the quantum vibrations of parallel universes harmonize and begin to overlap, causing matter in the area to intersect with and haphazardly shift to other quantum realities. It was first observed near the Azure Nebula (http://www.last-outpost.net/forum/index.php/topic,7873.0.html). Due to the dangerous nature of this anomaly, it is advised that all ships divert traffic away from areas that may be affected.
The Geronimo is the first starship to witness this kind of disturbance, so very little is known about what causes it, though it has been observed that high-energy warp fields will amplify its intensity. Conversely, inverse warp fields appear to cause the anomaly to contract. The Phoenix was able to seal a quantum phase disturbance by utilizing this effect.
