As of now, there are two worlds for the public. Survival, and creative.
If you prefer fighting monsters, exploring the world, and crafting armor, then survival is for you.
If you prefer building, whether it be large or small, then Creative is for you.
To find the portal to your chosen world, just look around spawn for the portal labelled 'Creative' or 'Survival'.
