Title: Ultimate Edition needs your input for the next patch!
Post by: Serris on August 14, 2014, 06:58:52 AM
As some of you know, I recently happened upon a texture bug that had popped up after the last update and posted about it on the dev blog here (http://rpg-x.tumblr.com/post/94425527263/investigating-possible-opengl-driver-error). Fortunately, I was able to find the cause, which you can read about here (http://rpg-x.tumblr.com/post/94714686908/resolution-opengl-driver-error-nope).

Now that the offending file has been identified, should we remove the content in order to fix it?

Why was Stukton_v2 borking up the transparancy then?

Isnt it possible to edit the pk3 to remove just the offending single file instead of the entire map? I'm sure the original author won't mind if we cant find him/her to ask for permission.

I must say i have been noticing some errors with models containing transparent textures when mapping (the larger plant model for example has solid black leaves in my Dauntless map atm) but I am using RPG-X SE not UE, so that might have a different cause then. I Didn't really notice anything being wrong with the Type9 shuttle model though.

That's just it. Looking at the files, there isn't anything identically named that should be breaking the textures, but it is. I can do some trial and error cherry picking to see what exactly is causing the error, but there's no guarantee that whatever I remove won't be essential to the map.

That problem with the fern leaves is also in Ultimate Edition, and I have no idea what's causing it. It also manifests in Standard without any modifications. As for why the Type 9 model isn't broken, it's because you're using Standard and probably don't have Stukton installed.

Binary search the map's files to see if you can find the issue, and f you can't then just chuck it. How often is it even used anyway?

Klaw had originally planned on using it for the Beyond Infinity finale.

Nice, so it was a problem with a few of the textures then?

Not with a texture, but with a shader file from the Stukton_V2.pk3 that was causing the textures to render incorrectly. I removed the shader, which fixed the textures and didn't visibly affect Stukton. Unfortunately, the cause of the fern leaf problem is still a mystery and under investigation.

Alright, I thought as much as that it could be a shader. Nice to see you've found the problem. Could you send the offending shader code via pm to me perhaps? I'll have a look at it and see why it might be bugging out.
