Title: Yorktown Pilot: A Brave New World
Post by: Scott Archer on April 08, 2016, 03:10:46 PM
The year is 2265.

After 6 months of leave, and a short refit; Yorktown is ready to be relaunched on a brand new 5 year mission under her former first officer, the newly promoted Captain Alexander Kelso, after her previous captain retires.

The crew takes to the mess hall to celebrate the success of their shakedown cruise and their chance to be back in the final frontier. But with old enemies resurfacing and the unknown doing what it does best, they'll soon find themselves up to their necks in it...
The journey is only just beginning...

Name: Natasha O'Neil
Age: 30
Gender: Female
Species: Human
3 Most Desired Positions: Chief Engineer, Communications Officer, Helm Officer
Bio: (Should this be commissioned then there will be a separate board for bios)

Natasha was born on Earth in 2235, to her parents Malcolm and Rochelle O'Neil in Starfleet Medical. When her Father heard the news over a message he had received from Starfleet whilst he was on the USS Helin, a Science Vessel taking sensors of a nearby system, he requested an Extended Leave of Absence to his Captain for the birth of his Daughter. When Natasha was brought into this world, her parents could not be more thrilled, for years they had been wanting a child and they got a baby girl. With Lieutenant Malcolm O'Neil's ELOA, her Mother took maternity leave so they could be with her daughter, to raise her into a confident young woman. Natasha began walking when she was 2 years old, which in some cases is an early stage compared to most Earth children since it takes them the age of 3 years to begin walking. As time passed, Natasha's senses became quite quick, although for a human this was impossible but they saw her as unique. Natasha wasn't another species, she was just a plain human living a simple lifestyle. When Natasha reached the age of 6 years, her Father Malcolm, got Natasha her first toy which was in fact a teddy bear she could cuddle up with when she was placed in her own bed. She was happy and content, but when she was awake she began reading different books and then reading stories to her parents out loud, in a way her senses were becoming acute.

2245 - As time went by, Natasha was the age of 10, beginning to read books on different spacial languages and reading on different races since she got into her Fathers study and spent all of her hours there, she never played with the other kids nor did she make any friends growing up. Natasha preferred the quiet life, only being with her parents as well as her books. When she was 10 and a half years old, Starfleet sent a message to her Father, the USS Helin requested that they have their Science Officer back on board immediately. This was due to the fact that he was part of the team that was scanning the sensors and finding different material composites on that nearby systems planet surface, granted the Miranda was still in planetary orbit.

There was nothing her Father could do, if he had been requested by Starfleet to return to the USS Helin then it was his duty to return back. At this point, Natasha felt afraid, scared since she would miss her Father since he was like her best friend besides her Mother. As each day passed, she would send messages to her Father but she wouldn't get a response from him, he was just too busy with his work to even answer on message from his daughter. When Natasha became the age of 12, something bad had happened, her Mother Rochelle, had received a message from a messenger of Starfleet, Lieutenant Malcolm O'Neil had been killed in action by a species they had no knowledge on. When Rochelle told Natasha what happened, she was devastated and ran to her bedroom, she picked up her teddy bear which still had no name and held it tightly, crying her eyes out.

When Natasha was 15, she like many others spoke with their parents or parent about enrolling in Starfleet when they're older. Rochelle had already lost one person in her life that was in Starfleet, she wasn't ready to risk losing another. She and Natasha had an argument on that very same day, which caused Natasha to hide herself in her Fathers study, where she continued to read on everything she had already read before at a younger age. It was Natasha's 16th Birthday, which caused her to get upset since her Father wasn't here for it. Her Father, Lieutenant Malcolm O'Neil died on Stardate 75341.1 2235, the same day that Natasha was only 12 and a half years old. This caused Natasha to get emotional, so she sat down with her Mother and explained that if she doesn't enrol in Starfleet, she wouldn't be able to continue the O'Neil legacy. After much deliberation and consideration but also weighing out the possibilities and the comprehensiveness of her Daughters confrontation, she made a decision that she would more than sooner regret. When her Mother sat down Natasha, she told her that she allowed her daughter to enrol in Starfleet.

It was the Year 2252, Natasha enrolled in Starfleet Academy, as a Freshman she could select courses in which she would be comfortable in. Natasha chose courses in Starfleet Communications, Starfleet Engineering, Starfleet Helm and Starfleet Operations. Granted she had trouble in most of the classes but with the reading she did as a child and an early teenager, it should help her pass her Freshman courses. Which... considerably it helped her pass her starter courses in all four subjects.

It was the year 2253, Natasha was 18 years old whilst she was still studying in the Academy as a Sophomore, but the courses became more intermediate instead of easy. As a Sophomore she took several Bridge Simulations as a Comms Officer, Engineer, Helmsman and an Operations Officer. As the year ended, since she was in her second year at the Academy, by a slim margin, she passed in her courses.

Year 2254, Natasha was 19 years old, studying the more advanced tiers in her chosen subjects, she was a Junior at this point. The exams she took became more difficult than she expected, she had a lot of perseverance to achieve her goals and her examinations so that she could be like her Father. By the end of the year, and with the examinations over, she went up the final year in the Academy to Senior.

Year 2255, Natasha had reached her 20th Birthday, she was in her final year at the Academy. Her chosen courses were a lot more advanced than she had first realized, the courses would take out of her comfort zone and test her real ability to see how she would fair. Granted they were severely difficult but Natasha was strong and confident, she was determined and persistent to complete her courses and examinations by the time the year had ended even if she did have some trouble. But by the time the year 2255 had ended, she graduated from Starfleet Academy in the Class of 2255.

Natasha received the rank of Ensign after her graduation, and was awarded several awards from the Academy as well as good conduct from Starfleet. She was assigned to the USS Helin by personal request, as the ships Communications Officer but always helpful to lend a hand in Engineering as well as other positions on the Ship. The Commanding Officer on the ship who knew her Father was Captain Thomas Wilkins who knew Natasha's Father very well, he was like an old friend to the Captain and he was aware of the casualty report that showed Lieutenant Malcolm O'Neil's death on board. The ship took damage on Deck 8, where Science Lab 2 was but it took 8 years for the Helin to sort out repairs, they turned the Science Lab into a memorial area, to honour those who had died risking their lives, her Father was one of those people.

Natasha requested to continue her Fathers work but due to the amount of personal attachments she had with her Father, Captain Wilkins denied her request and placed her as a Communications Officer, but also as a standby Engineer and Helmsman.

2256 - The Helin was continuing it's sensor scans of the nearby planetary system when a Klingon D7 Cruiser decloaked off the Starboard bow, and began attacking the Helin with it's disruptor cannons. The Helin was becoming heavily damaged, until the Captain ordered Ensign Natasha O'Neil to get down to Engineering to fix a reactor leak, which caused her to have second degree burns, but the doctors said she would pull through. The Captain sent a message to Starfleet, requesting a commendation to Ensign O'Neil for her commendable act, and saving the lives of the Helin.

2257 - Starfleet recalled the Helin for repairs for a refit, but it would still look the same. They also requested that Ensign O'Neil report to Starfleet Command, so on the next shuttle, Natasha went down to Starfleet Command. She was awarded the Medal of Bravery, an old War Time Medal from Earth's history for her act of saving the Helin in desperate times.

2257 - Natasha was recalled back to the Helin, receiving the rank of Lieutenant from Captain Thomas Wilkins on board the ship. Although she was still the ships Communications Officer, she was also granted Systems Specialist in the Engineering department, as well as Xenolinguistics Specialist on board, this wasn't due to her time in Starfleet Academy, but her knowledge of Alien languages.

2265 - Natasha had heard about the USS Yorktown through reading the Starfleet Database, of old Ships of the Line. She sent out a request to Starfleet for a transfer from the Helin to the Yorktown as any position not just due to her Academic but also from her time on the USS Helin.

The question is not where I want you (but CSO and CMO are probably quite important!) but where you want to be :)

Hawk/ Gamer, you both have Helm and tactical as 1 and 2. Is either of you happy to take tactical over helm?

Name: Robert Bruce
Species: Human
3 Most Desired Positions:CSO, ACE, or ENG
Bio: (should this be commissioned then there will be a separate board for bios):

Robert was born in 2236 to two Starfleet officers, an engineer and a science officer. He grew up bearing their stories of their missions of exploration and became interested in their fields. He was very intelligent from when he was young, and had a fairly good memory. So, by the time hewas about 16 he was already studying Physics, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Chemical Engineering.

When he turned 17 he headed off to the academy a year early due to him already finishing high school studies, studying Science and Engineering. He worked hard at his classes and he ended graduating in 2257 and was assigned to the USS Miranda as a Science officer and an replacement engineer.

He showed great skill at both positions for 4 years and was reassigned to the Constitution as Assistant Chief Science Officer and Warp Technology Specialist in engineering. He served well on the Excelsior for four years, showing great capacity at both positions before the Refits, at which point he was reassigned to the Yorktown in 2265.

Welcome aboard Mr Bruce!

Edit: Also, this is set before the Excelsior existed, so your character probably didn't serve on it :)

Title: Star Trek: Yorktown Summary
Post by: Scott Archer on April 24, 2016, 03:55:10 PM

'The situation is worsening'
The only think that Captain Alexander Kelso and the crew of the USS Yorktown should have been doing that evening was celebrating the launch of their ship. Another 5 year mission, an exploration to the millions of dots out there, each with their own story. The above line is the last thing that anyone wants to hear, let alone the captain of a Starfleet ship.

'They're beautiful aren't they?'
The first words of Kelso's as he meets his new Chief Engineer, Natasha O'Niel and Chief of Security, George Mendez; who were starring out of the viewport at the universe pass by.
As Kelso and Robert Bruce, CSO, share a drink a call comes through for the captain to return to the bridge.
A curious crew return to their own stations.

'We're sending you to rendezvous with Enterprise'
The ship of fame, just returned from her refit after traversing the galactic barrier, surely there is no one better to have at your side?
Maybe when fully staffed, but as Yorktown launches with a skeleton crew the situation couldn't be a lot worse, no matter what they were being sent to face.

'Suliban.'
A nomadic species who had once held power. Thought lost, until Mendez reveals that his previous ship had an encounter with them. The Suliban are maybe more alive than we dared believe.
It is their fleet that is headed for the planet of Coridan, but what do they want?

'I'm reading 6 strange signatures'
As Yorktown adjust her course to head towards the Regulus system to rendezvous with Enterprise, they are followed by 6 strange signatures. Suddenly Yorktown is in the midst of a battle, several Suliban cell ships surround them and attack. Yorktown holds her own for a time but is soon knocked out of warp and with number 8 deflector screen failing, the cell ships are able to attach themselves to the hull near engineering.

'Oh no.'
K'Ress and her team is forced to evacuate as the small security team attempts to retake the crucial area.
Mendez himself comes in an attempt to retake control, but each advance is forced back by the never ending hordes of Suliban swarming through the ship.
The skeleton crew can do nothing to stop their advance, and those who can fall back to the bridge to make a last stand.
The Suliban invade quickly.

'Surrender'
As Mendez and O'Neil attempt to retaliate, the Suliban gun down the crew forcing Kelso to surrender his ship to the Suliban. It saves the bloodshed now, but will it for long?

'What do you want with us?'
'We are working to enforce the Suliban as a dominant race much more. We intend to start our conquest with the invasion of Coridan.'
'Coridan is not a Federation world, what do you want with us?'
'I intend to use Yorktown. The Coridinians will see it as a Federation assault. And whilst you war, we will rise up from the ashes.
Your time has been.
Ours is yet to come'

To be continued...

This poll is now for reviews! If you could leave a vote on how much you enjoyed the episode in the poll on the first page that would be greatly appreciated, as would any words you had on the story!
