I know some departments have coffee cups in there items menu but couldnt we have it so the replicator works and materialises one when you click on it so everyone can have one in there inventory as a bit of role play when your in a mess hall or office or during meeting scenes. Couldnt we get like a basic generic food on a plate type prop with associated animations when using it would spice up roleplaying a bit in some areas of the ship when using replicators
Just saying, it could be done as part of a map entity... though, it'd take some finagling - and it would only exist on the map it was built in.
This is certainly possible, but it would be up to map makers to implement.
As a matter of fact, entity "giving" of coffee cups is already possible. I'm not sure if its also possible to spawn one (just like when you drop one), but it could be created.
I'll make an issue out of this and we'll see if we can get it into the 2.5 release perhaps.
Some maps have clickable replicators you click it hear the noise nothing ever happens to make it worth while clicking them ever if nothing spawns in them when you click

Indeed, the only thing the click does is trigger a sound here. Its how the map makes created it.
Adding new items to the game isn't as trivial as it may sound.
Both the server and clients need to "agree" on what items each person is holding, so adding new items will involve tweaking with the game's networking code. Martin and I have decided to stay away from any changes to the networking code for now so that we can maintain compatibility between RPG-X 2.3 and 2.4.
That being said, if/when we do move on to 2.5 or beyond, we will definitely be looking into adding new items, including weapons or other items.
