Episode 1

Despite a decade of RPG-X & STO head canon finally being wiped away (I don't even think the name 'Hobus' survived, though I'll still be listening out for mentions of a nanovirus), I thought the first episode was a really encouraging start. In my head I've already mapped out where I think the entire first season is going to go based on the numerous parts we have already been introduced to.
It seems as though we will be seeing Bruce Maddox again at some point which I wasn't particularly expecting. Though I expect we'll have a few surprises like that along the way! I also have to assume Borg tech will be playing a bigger part than just being a derilict base for some Romulans. Will we see a Romulan controlled Borg/Cylon army by the end of this? Who knows!

It's a bit of a shame Dahj was dispatched so soon. They probably could have paced that out a little more so she didn't feel like quite so much of a disposable plot device. But hey, long live Soji.

Ooh, we even got a remastered version of the Balance of Terror theme at the end which was really neat and ominous!
For our first real venture in to Post-Nemesis Trek, I think the glimpses of the world so far look the part. Apparently the first three episodes combined can be considered an introduction to the show so it will probably take a little while to get going here but I'm very excited to see where it goes! The opening moments alone set my emotional state for the rest of the episode. Plus Patrick Stewart just gets better with age!

Over the next year or two there are going to be enough Star Trek shows back on the box to cater to all kinds of folk - and I'm already very pleased that Picard will be one of them. Early days but I'm really on board!

This take on a more oppressive, violent humanity feels way more brutal than even Discovery's take on the Terran Empire.
