Following a shocking revelation regarding the origin of the Vega Drones within the depths of the downed Starship Gibraltar, the away team led by Commander Menden has fled the scene aboard the Ariana. Ambushed by a lone drone, Craig McClintock fights for his humanity as Doctor Rogan and Lieutenant Etis race to halt the progress of the modified assimilation virus taking over his body. With their sabotaged vessel losing power, Menden is forced to put the ship down on an unlikely source of refuge - at the abandoned research facility on the moon of Rajusca. It is there that their long night begins...

With the facility deteriorating and falling victim to it's hostile surroundings, the team must secure themselves against the elements and make use of what resources they have to repair their ship and ensure their survival. Long range communication is not an option when faced with the possibility of Vega learning of their location so close to Accobar. But they are not the only ones who seem to believe this. The drone responsible for the Ariana's sabotage now stalks the crew within the halls of the facility, programmed to make contact with it's ad-hoc collective at all costs... and It could already be too late.

Back aboard Starbase 215, Captain Mason faces the results of her neurological exam, fearing that Vega's actions aboard Station Nimoy may have affected her existing condition. However, a new acquaintance promises to shed some light on her predicament and potentially point her in the right direction on the road to retaking Accobar and reclaiming Pioneer......

An Introduction to 'Night of the Fiery Serpent' by Grizz

We may be four months late, but we're here and throwing ourselves right back in to the drastic situation which we left behind!

Introducing this episode should be an easy task for most of you as you've already had it introduced to you in the form of Asteroid Field: Resurrection - that thing which didn't happen quite as intended. But for those of you that missed it, forgot about it or have since joined the SRP, lets go over it again, shall we?

Having lost Pioneer Station and the USS Hera to a new breed of Borg - engineering using Halkonian and Telosian technology - Captain Mason's crew were dispatched out of Starbase 215 (http://www.last-outpost.net/forum/index.php/topic,8126.0.html) aboard the Ariana to locate the missing Starship Gibraltar somewhere in the Tyrella Sector. Having located the wrecked ship and been ambushed by a lone drone while fleeing the site, Chief Engineer Craig McClintock finds himself at assimilation's doorstep while the sabotaged Ariana itself is losing power fast. That is where we immediately pick up the tale.

Landing on Rajusca for shelter, this is essentially the type of base-under-siege story which you have come to know very well and I have come to love very much. But it has to be a bit more punchier than the usual fare. Coming back after this amount of time means it should make an impact. This group of increasingly vulnerable people have gone through the mill over the last few days and weeks - and now they're stranded together, forced to rely on eachother's wits and strengths to make it through what is going to be a very long night indeed. It's important that the effects of recent events are keenly felt on your characters while in this place. I want this to be an opportunity to reconnect with these people and this world we created in a big way.

Upon taking refuge in the research facility, there will be a number of tasks available for different people to perform according to their skill-set. Some will be long-term, others will be more immediate. I won't be pre-determining the outcome of certain events or solutions to certain problems - that will be up to you. What I will be doing is ensuring that the presence of an unwanted guest does not go unawares. After all, there is a rogue drone on Rajusca with you - and he has a plan which you cannot allow to succeed.

Elsewhere, we'll be opening with a pretty standard scene between Captain Mason and a brand new character. This will be setting up a new overarching narrative for these episodes and beyond - ultimately putting the crew on a course to uncovering the truth about Pioneer's captor, Maria Vega, and perhaps a wider truth about the unfortunate events which have afflicted the Accobar System over the years... so there's that.

In true Asteroid Field fashion, it's now Thursday and nothing is ready because everything is broken. Thanks to a corrupted Windows, the music pack isn't ready and the finalised scripted scenes aren't finished. But I have little doubt that it will all come together in time for Sunday's première. I'm already happy to be back and I hope that you will be too by the time 'Night of the Fiery Serpent' reaches it's end. This is the start of what is essentially a three-part miniseries-within-a-series, which will be followed up by a very special fourth episode acknowledging the eighth year since Accobar was first brought in to the RPG-X universe. That's my plan before the festive holiday break and I'm sticking to it.

Oh, and it's a more interesting title than the original 'Rajusca' dontchathink?

Sounds good! I hope to see everyone back in action on sunday, and also the new members who registered. Perhaps a small ad campaign (read: pm everyone and put up a steam event) would help raising awareness for this re-launch of the 6th season!

Quick suggestion: also put the air time in the introduction post (next to the air date), I know its in a seperate topic, but many people make the same mistake of joining either too late or, sometimes, too early.
