Plot

In 2400, Starfleet expanded their activities into the Delta Quadrant. They set up the the Delta Science Initiative, DSI, to explore the quadrant using ships with Quantum Slipstream drives. In 2404, Starfleet encountered a race of subspace beings which were dying due to damage Slipstream engines caused to subspace. Starfleet improved their engines to prevent this, however, the subspace beings weren't the only ones affected...

The year is now 2415. Five years ago, the DSI lost one of their lead science vessels when it's commanding officer took it trough a spatial rift in order to stop another vessel attempting to destroy subspace in the Delta Quadrant. It has since been replaced by the USS Audax. The Audax returned to Starbase Atlantis from the new Annunaki homeworld where it attended a gathering of the Delta Quadrants' foremost scientifically advanced races during a large inter-species knowledge sharing congres. A few hours after the Audax docks, another small science vessel of a species that hadn't been seen for a long time also arrives at the starbase...

The event concluded, thank you all for attending.

I will write up a full review this week, explaining to you all what just happend.

If enough people liked it, I will continue the story in a Mini-SRP, and you can all see what happend after a Chroniton wave rewrote the timeline into one where the USS Audax does not exist and the USS Dauntless, for some reason, had to help out the Krenim from issues with the Vaadwaur? Stay tuned...

"TLO Presents: Star Trek Dauntless"

It has been just over 2 years (2 years, 1 month and 12 days to be precise) since I last typed those words into the RPG-X console. I went in with mixed feelings as the original USS Dauntless was destroyed in the series finale and none of the 'old guard' was present (except for Jenson, who played a short part in one of our seasons on TLO ;) ). I had decided it was part for something new anyway, so I went with that, perhaps a bit too much in the end, but we'll see how it all turns out in the future.

In Memory of Satoru Iwata

As a side note, in the first act we saw a Starfleet Admiral called Iwata, his name was based off of Nintendo's CEO Satoru Iwata, whom I learned, the day after, had died from cancer on Saturday. Rest in peace Mr. Iwata and much strength to your Familiy.

"I'm not sure why the Admiral's in town, but I have enough sense to hide from those with bars and stripes."

Starbase Atlantis had just received the USS Audax. A ship taken into service 3 years to replace the USS Dauntless. The crew had been granted some shore leave on the starbase and most of them already found the meshall on the lower decks to grab a drink. On the uppers decks, DSI Admiral Iwata and Annunaki Ambassador Marduk met up for the annual review of their interspecies exchange program. They exchanged some information and crew rosters, with Marduk noting they found "enough willing contestants" and they "are planning on doing it right this time."

"Saved by the bell... "

The Audax crew scattered after their little meshall get-together and started to help our their Atlantean colleagues. While Ms. Turing, Mr. Jenson and Mr. Th'orin wen to help out in OPS, Commander Bonchune detected a non listed incoming vessel. A bit of panic broke out as the, regulatory, yellow alert sounded when the vessel did not respond to hails. However, it was soon discovered no threat to the station was present as it was only a small Krenim science vessel with 3 very faint lifesigns on board. Jenson, with his fingers on the tractorbeam button, towed in the ship while the Krenim were beamed to sickbay. Captain Archer and Commander Bonchune went to check up on their guests, leaving some of the USS Audax crew to take care of Atlantis for a bit, all the while calming down their younger fellow crew who showed concern about the raised alert level and the sudden appearance of the Krenim, whom hadn't been encountered since their last meet-and-greet with the USS Dauntless years ago.
In Sickbay, Doctor Adams, temporarily replacing Atlantis' resident CMO John Aurora (a fact which threw Captain Archer a bit off when he walked up to him), was already taking good care of the Krenim. In fact, their leader, who revealed herself as Dr. Noraxia a while later, was already conscious and eager to talk and find out what was going. The short version? The Krenim vessel, Denuo, was attacked by a few small raider vessels that stole a piece of technology from a Krenim research facility on the borders of Krenim space. The raiders disappeared in some kind of subspace disruption, a wormhole the Krenim believed, and the Denuo managed to follow. Inside the tunnel like disruption, a strong current like force pushed the Denuo around as its helmsman had to dodge all kind of debris inside the anomaly. The Denuo got hit several times and was thrown out of the tunnel. They managed to set the autopilot for the nearest starbase, which caused them to arrive at Atlantis. And that as they say, is that. Oh and Ms. Turing had a gander at the Denuo's systems, which were locked save for their navigation computer which corroborated Dr. Noraxia's story.

"Undocking procedures, people!"

After a (somewhat hasty) boarding of the Audax (thank god for non-realtime time-skipping special effects), the crew set course for the location of the Denuo's exit point with the subspace tunnel. Ms. Milsia Mores kept her sensors sharp and upon arrival discovered a very faint reading of what looked like a slipstream exit aperture. After confirming it was located at the same coordinates Dr. Noraxia gave the crew. Being concerned that, whoever those raiders where, an unknown race possessed slipstream technology, Captain Asil ordered the Audax to return to Atlantis to assess the situation. As soon as Mr Jamison engaged the Audax' slipstream engines, they exit aperture opened and sucked in the Audax.

Now also trapped in the same subspace anomaly the Denuo found itself in, the Audax raised shields to protect themselves against the debris floating around the slipstream-like subspace tunnel. Mr Jenson discovered the tunnel matched readings first taken by the USS Voyager of a phenomenon dubbed the Underspace (http://en.memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Underspace, VOY: Dragon's Teeth). Mr Jenson and Jamison theorized they could use the deflector dish to recreate the conditions under which the USS Voyager was able to exit the Underspace. Their plan succeeded, however, they found that they had travelled quite the distance, 20.000 light years in fact, right in Krenim Space. Coincidentally, the stunt they pulled also ruined their deflector dish, taking sensors offline for the time being.

"=/\= Make it your first priority to get sensors back online. We need them to...."

We will never know what Captain Asil was about to say, as the most sudden of map switches occurred. The players (yes, you, the players, not the crew) found themselves on a brand-spanking new (well, partially) bit of map in which the view out of the windows had changed as well as the Commanding Officer now in charge of the ship...

CO Martin Thompson: What was that?

CE Cirilla Turing: Curious.

CO Martin Thompson: Ms. Turing?

CE Cirilla Turing: Sir, a massive chroniton wave has just passed over us..

CO Martin Thompson: ...If it didn't do any damage, thats a problem for later.

CE Cirilla Turing: The sensor grid is playing up... as usual...

CO Martin Thompson: For now , lets focus on what the Krenim want from us. We didn't pass through Vaadwaur space all this way for nothing....

For those of you who didn't notice, the chroniton wave (often referred to as a Temporal Distortion Wave) which passed them also passed the Audax, but with the Audax' sensors down, they never saw it coming. The wave caused the entire Milky Way to be thrown into a parallel timeline, one in which... well something was removed from the timeline which caused Commander Thompson to be still in command of the USS Dauntless, which had, for some reason, received a distress call from the Krenim and it's crew had decided it was worth the risk to fight through Vaadwaur (!) space to see what the Krenim had to offer...

"To Be Continued?"
I hope you liked this installment of Star Trek Dauntless, featuring a sneak peak of the new map and also the beginnings of an event mentioned in the first episode of another SRP (http://www.last-outpost.net/forum/index.php/topic,7229.0.html). If there is enough interest for seeing where the story takes us, well then, that question mark might just turn into an exclamation, but that is all up to you.

P.S. For those of you interested, I've attached the episode chat log!
