Title: Issue with Taren-A

So yes, I was interested in trying out RPG-X, so after waiting for two days for the website to stop being broken (nothing but the front page or forums would load) I finally manage to download it...only to have the Taren-A map (which is currently on the SRP server) to not work at all.
It doesn't show up on my map list when creating a server, and it dumps me back into the main menu for trying to connect to it. The map file is in my baseEF folder, as with other custom maps I downloaded (which work fine by the way). Has anyone else had this issue and if so, how can it be fixed?

Hi there,

Yes, there have been some issues with the website - see my shouts in the shoutbox for more on that.

As far as Taren-A, it (along with some other highly complex maps) doesn't always play well with ioCow-based RPG-X (e. g. RPGXCE), and so there might not be much we can do - but here are some things you can try:

1) Don't load the map locally; that won't work. Connect to the server running it first thing.

2) Change your com_hunkmegs (reserved memory) value - to do this, edit the autoexec.cfg file in your RPGXCE install directory, and change the line which says: "set com_hunkmegs [a number]", where that number is half of your available RAM (so if you have 1024MB/1GB of RAM, 512, if you have 512MB, 256).

3) Try lowering graphics settings.

4) Lastly, make sure you have all dependencies for Taren installed.

If you are completely unable to get on after trying all of these things, and nobody else is on the server, contact an admin - anyone in the Council or Server Admin groups on the forum. We'll change the map to something you can access.

As for your problem, its strange, it should work. What you could do to help us is the following:

-Go into the game and try to join that map
-When it kicks you out, open the console (press ~  key)
-Scroll up (mousehweel or Page Up key) and find a section looking like this:

ERROR: <error here>
==============================

Post that error here and we can help you further.

Also, an additional note, not all (mostly not actually) maps will show up when you try to host your own server.
If you start up a map, open the console again and type /mapslist and press enter,
that lists all the maps you have.

Alternatively, just have a look in your BaseEF folder what maps you have. To start a map, open the console again and type /map <mapname here>  With mapname being the name of the .bsp file which is INSIDE the .pk3 file in the "maps" folder (so the mapname is NOT the name of the .pk3 file itself).

Hmmh, now it closes without a prompt when I try to connect to the server. However, I managed to dig up an error log of some sort, and I see repeated failures to access "uix86.dll" which is not in the indicated folder.

Lowered graphics settings didn't do anything to fix the problem as far as I could tell.

As for dependencies, Taren-A has no listed dependencies.

Also, attempting to load the map manually through console prompts it to inform me it can't find the map. Which is odd, as the map is with all the other .pk3s which work fine.

Loading a map shouldn't actually close the game, even if the map load fails. The uix86.dll error is a red herring - that DLL stores information on Quake 3 that is provided elsewhere in the program; everyone gets that error and it doesn't affect the game itself.

Can you post a condump? To take one, right click and run RPGXCE as administrator, then open the console with ~ and type "/condump [name].txt" - the file, with [name] as its name, will appear in your install directory/RPG-X2 - post it here.

Unfortunately, there's really nothing we can do about that error under the current engine. There are changes in development that fix this... but for now, not much I can do for you aside from changing the map.

Martin's fix for parsing errors strangely enough fixed that issue for me. But it also caused a glitch with shadows but that's bearable.
