Hello, I'm here to report a possible bug in RPGXCE which causes a corrupt JPEG error on, at least, Station Vanderbilt, and possibly more.  One of our members at Section 31, Lwaxana, got the error with Station Vanderbilt, so we went through his game and removed as much as we could (everything that wasn't an official file required by {S31}), and it still happened.  He then did a fresh install of rpgxEF using RPGXCE, and only put Vanderbilt in it, and he still got the problem.  So then, I got him to install original EF + expansion pack, and I got him rpgxEF the old fashioned way - ioEF, then RPG-X, then the whole concurrent rpgxEF install thing - and put the Vanderbilt it, and it worked.  The fact that we took the same measure, first with RPGXCE and then with a traditional install, and only the latter worked makes me think that the problem may have been caused by a bug in RPGXCE.  I just wanted to let the developers know so they can look at that.  Vanderbilt has been made available from our site (to our members), and I can link up the developers if they want the PK3 for use in tests.  I shall have Lwaxana drop by this thread and confirm that the details I've posted were correct.

Yes this post is accurate we tried every imaginable way to get vanderbilt to work with rpgxef made from CE the old fashion way was the only thing that worked

Let me guess, you try to load a map but get a jpeg error?

This has to do with some messed up textures or levelshots that, for some reason, affect other maps. If It happens again, I would suggest logarithmically searching your folder for the problem map.

Telex, as I said in the original post, he tried doing a fresh install of RPGXCE/rpgxEF, and only putting in the Vanderbilt, no other maps, and it still gave the error.

This reminds me - there are some maps included by default with RPGXCE - you might want to clear everything but the EF PK3s and TLO Rankset out of your BaseEF, and then try it.

Ok I have RPGXEF at least thats what the EXE says. However just like the TLO exe it just takes me to "WELCOME TO HOLOMATCH!" Instead of RPGX so I have to go to Mods then select RPGX. Now when I select the TLO Server it just kicks to menu. And when I try to load the
Vanderbit map I get "Error: Not a JPEG File: Starts with 0x6f0x8c Copy console to clipboard?."

and this is what i get for it. I deleted whats not really important so I dont go past the 30k character limit.

I don't want to seem like I'm getting annoyed, but I really don't want to have to say this again:

Lwaxana DID TRY putting ONLY the Vanderbilt in the game with NO other maps present and STILL got the error, therefore, it was NOT being caused by any other maps.

My problem is that I cant access the server as well. I did say that. And that RPGXEF and TLO's own launcher both load up Holomatch not RPGX so I have to use the mods menu ingame to get to it.

Andromeda, are you using the shortcut RPGXCE places on the desktop? The executable itself will launch holomatch unless you pass it the proper parameters.

Indeed, if you use the shortcut with the +set fs_game  RPG-X2
parameter it should boot up RPG-X2.

As for the JPEG error, it looks like something is going wrong
while parsing the textures for Vanderbilt, judging from the error message
there is a corrupt JPEG file int he pk3 that has an incorrect header format.
I'll try getting Vanderbilt and seeing what happens for myself, ill post back here when im done.

Alright i got station vanderbilt, loaded it up, no problems whatsoever...
Its really strange then. I have a theory, correct me if im wrong.

Station Vanderbilt is using some textures from other maps, BUT it has those textures included.
Now when EF loads up the textures, it does that in alphabetical PK3 order. This means the textures
in pak1.pk3 get loaded before those in zzzzzzzzzzzstation_vanderbilt_v3.pk3 for example.
BUT if there is a texture in the latter pk3 thats is in the EXACT SAME folder AND has
the EXACT SAME name AND is of the EXACT SAME type, the latter one gets loaded.

Lets say there is a texture called red.jpg in a folder textures/thismap. Both paks a.pk3 and b.pk3
have textures/thismap/red.jpg
Now in pak a, this is a plain red textures, in pak b, this is a picture of a Red Dwarf star.
When you load up EF, it will first load up the plain red texture from pak a, but then
encounter the one from pak b and load a the dwarf star. Now in EVERY map that has
the textures/thismap.red.jpg texture, the Dwarf Star is displayed, even though
it might have been the plain red texture when the map was created.

My suspicion is that Vanderbilt's textures get overwritten by other textures in a PK3 that has a
lower alphabetical order then Vanderbilt and that that fixes the issue. So to say, if you have
alot of maps, you might not get the problem, but if you dont have alot of maps, the texture
in the vanderbilt.pk3 gets loaded which trows an error. Am I making sence here
(this whole thing is also why you see alot of pk3 files with zzzzzzzzzzz in front of them, so the
creators are sure THIER textures get loaded).

Also something i noticed, I have 2 Station Vanderbilt maps. 1 is the original, 1 is the V3.
Which version are you having problems with?

Alright, that is strange then. Problem is i cant reconstruct the error so i cant help you fix it...Ill try a fresh install of RPG-X CE, then installing rpgxEF on it and then just putting the map in it and see if i get the error or not.

I don't really see what it matters about a new version of the map.  This is obviously a problem in RPGXCE, and if there is indeed a problem in RPGXCE, then it's irrelevant whether it's just this map at the moment or not - the point is, there's something wrong, something that could prevent RPGXCE users from enjoying future maps if they, for whatever reason, are also affected by this problem.  Have the technicians looked into this issue yet?

It has been my experience that corrupted textures/levelshots on third party maps are what cause such errors.

It is -entirely- likely that it's a problem with a version of the map. The problem could be IGNORED in some versions of Elite Force, or may only manifest in collaboration with another issue which is itself a part of RPGXCE, but I'm not sure how you can come to the conclusion that it is solely RPGXCE's fault this issue occurs - since, if it were an RPGXCE issue ONLY, it'd likely occur on OTHER maps as well.

I was able to replicate this issue in my own rpgxEF/RPGXCE install, but solving it is going to require assistance from the people who made the map, as I'll need to know what resources the map uses, and where they come from. The JPEG error it reports means that an image/texture JPEG the game is trying to load has been corrupted and is unusable; this corrupted file could be one of the literally thousands in Elite Force's basic files, it could be one of hundreds in RPG-X and rpgxEF's filebase, or it could be a file within the map itself. In order to know, I need to know what resources the map is using - then I need to look at each and every one until I locate the file that is causing the issue.

Edit/Update: I've done some testing. At Telex's suggestion, I removed pak3.pk3 from the baseEF directory, and Vanderbilt began to function. Pak3 contains the Elite Force stock maps; it's included separately within RPGXCE in order to allow users who have RPGXCE to play on them. There must be a conflict within it somewhere.
