Title: rpgxEF controls [RESOLVED]
Post by: Telex Ferra on December 31, 2012, 02:18:37 PM
This is a little embarrassing since I'm supposed to be one of the experts on this but...

I can't get my controls to stick in rpgxEF. Whenever I restart it, the controls revert to the defaults. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Only thing I can think of is to check which files rpgxEF is writing to. On windows 7 a lot of files for RPG-X configuration are in a virtualstore directory, usually %localappdata%/VirtualStore/[your rpgxEF install path] - try deleting those. Also check %appdata% for a similar path.

Yes and no, I got this problem myself a while ago. It popped up for me when I had 2 installs in parallel. One was a rpgxEF folder and one was a "Normal"  ioCow RPG-X install. I believe it has to do with the location on your hard disk rpgxEF stores the configs. Either ioCow or rpgxEF stores the configs in C:/Users/<your user name>/AppData/Local (hidden folder), i don't know which one though. The other one stores the config files in the RPG-X 2 folder in your EF installation directory. For some reason, booting say ioCow, doing something, shutting it down again and then booting the other one, say rpgxEF, wipes the config file for rpgxEF.

Thats the problem I had atleast. The fix for me was to specify the location of the config file by using a command in my shortcut (just like the shotcut reads -set fs_game rpg-x2). If I could only remember that command, but I don't, sorry.

Ah yes that was the one, BUT, either rpgxEF OR ioCow.ioEF doesn't understand the fs_homepath command (i think it was ioCow btw so it shouldnt matter) so something might still be amiss. Sorry im not of more help, I just know that Ive struggeled with this in the past.

I've just run into this problem after switching to rpgxEF. I had to create an autoexec.cfg with all of my binds and character details. Suffice to say, a less drastic solution would be nice for those who don't have the patience to do what I did.

That's the sort of thing that, ultimately, RPGXCE should fix for you (it should go a ways to doing that in its current beta iteration, but I hope to improve it more in future versions).
