Title: Season 1.0 Report
Post by: Grizz on April 19, 2013, 03:17:33 PM
If you're familiar with Asteroid Base, then you may know that I like to summarise a season's worth of episodes in terms of ratings, feedback and all that good stuff. In the case of Asteroid Field, I will be posting these reports every half-season due to the extended episode count. So I'll jump straight in to the ratings round-up.

Our Little Corner:

Excellent Score: 6
Good Score: 2

Verdict: The opening episode expanded on the pilot roleplay by establishing all of our new characters and introducing Pioneer Station. Apart from a few issues with pacing, the episode was received favourably and was a good stepping stone to jump in to the series.

***

Off the Deep End:

Excellent Score: 8

Verdict: Matching the opener's eight votes, but this time all for top marks, the second episode picked up the story from the first while making the biggest leap forward in the Accobar storyline since early Asteroid Base episodes. Off The Deep End broke the curse of previously flawed second episodes.

***

Black Hat:

Excellent Score: 5
Good Score: 2

Verdict: Griffiths' first written instalment touched on the darker side of the Promenade and delved in to the character of Gaila. The episode received a good amount of votes and was received favourably by you guys. This set up some recurring themes that will return later on in the season.

***

All That Jazz:

Excellent Score: 6
Good Score: 1

Verdict: The Community Day special saw a good post-episode turn out for votes, but received zero comments. It was light. It was character building. But it was also a surprising turning point for a number of lead characters. Something we will be returning to in force later.

***

Truth or Consequence Part 1:

Excellent Score: 6
Good Score: 2

Verdict: Griffiths' second episode of the season was voted for favourably and despite a single piece of written feedback, introduced a number of running threads successfully. Truth or Consequence was when the bar began to be raised.

***

Truth or Consequence Part 2:

Excellent Score: 5
Good Score: 1

Verdict: A well received and well executed episode wrapped up the series' first two-part story penned by Griffiths. An average voter turn-out followed a week of discord behind the scenes which was documented on the forum.

***

Where There is Discord:

Excellent Score: 9
Good Score: 1

Verdict: The highest rated episode of the season was voted for by everyone and received a mass of written feedback. Described as a turning point for the series and the moment it stood apart from Asteroid Base. I wish I could have built on this.

***

May We Bring Harmony:

Excellent Score: 3
Good Score: 1

Verdict: A change from the usual mid-season formula may have been a mistake on my part. It wasn't the loudest, it wasn't the most exciting but it was the culmination of Season 1.0's main storyline. Seemingly, as a result, it takes the spot of lowest rated episode with no feedback recorded bar the four votes.

***

Votes Cast: 58

Excellent Votes - 48
Good Votes - 10

One 'Poor' vote was recorded following the standalone pilot and one 'Awful' vote was recorded following 'Truth or Consequence Part 1.' Both votes were recorded by departing members and the 'awful' vote has since been revoked. Season 1.0's episodes are ranked accordingly in terms of votes and ratings:

Where There is Discord
Off The Deep End
Truth or Consequence Part 1
Our Little Corner
All That Jazz
Black Hat
Truth or Consequence Part 2
May We Bring Harmony

To put this in to context, the highest rated episode received the most votes overall and the lowest rated received the fewest votes overall. All episodes were rated 'Good' or higher.

Hopefully we will be able to build on what we did right these first eight episodes and try to avoid what we did wrong. I don't think I'll be putting the 'talking heavy' episodes at the end of a run for a while, but while still trying to avoid repeating the Asteroid Base formula. Or maybe that's what will be preferred. Either way, this is where your feedback comes in and why it matters. So keep it coming.
Yes, this is why I'm single.
Thats a verry good rating, well done grizz and griff (that just sounds funny XD). I enjoyed myself at the rp's which is also reflected in the ratings. Apart from one or two minor mishaps during the first part of the season i think the story was put in verry strong with enough "background written" to get deep story that feels true. Character development is good overall in my eyes, some less then others but that is up to the people themselves, you guys give us enough space to do our things within the confines of the main arc which is good.

I can only hope that Dauntless will get the same ratings on its last season, then I would be verry happy :)
Don't worry Grizz, it might be a only a small comfort, but we all love you <3
Thank you for the additions, Martin  :) Yes, Dauntless deserves to go out on the highest possible note after four seasons!

Where is the poor vote on the chart?

The pilot's votes ('Ab Initio') are not counted in the report. Though it was 8 excellents and 1 poor. Alas, the member did not stick around for the actual series.

Ohohohoh I thought the first one on the list was the pilot. I guess you're talking about one of the SRP pilots that everyone did during one of the previous polls.

Gotcha. Congratulations.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
