Hello everyone, it's that time again for the now-monthly update. This one, however, is quite short and features some musings on the 100th episode set in the Asteroid Base multiverse.
I have been very specific with the numbering. A bridge has been formed between Old and New Asteroid Base, while the transition to Asteroid Field has carried on the story under a new name with some new characters. The story which started in 2007 has evolved and transformed, but ultimately remains constant. It was never about Asteroid Base: Alpha or Pioneer Station. It was about the Accobar System itself. Why it has influenced so many important events. Why it has been the centre of so much conflict but also so many strides forward in diplomatic relations. Previously home to an ancient civilization we still know very little about. Exploited and fed upon by an advanced civilization we know too much about. It has shaped and defined a handful of Starfleet Officers who have been stationed to protect it. The first episode of the first season was entitled 'Discovery.' I think that single word has defined the years that followed.
I have been torn. Torn on how best to pay tribute to the work that many roleplayers and contributors have put in to crafting that multiverse. But also how to thank all of those responsible for the series reaching this point - directly or indirectly. Without Quy, Asteroid Base would never have been created. Without Quince / LynxMukka and Bondgadget, it would never have been revived and thrived at {UFP}. Without Sharpkiller, the traditional threats to the Chief Medical Officer's life would never have become a thing. Without Vanguard, it would never have been added to an SRP poll at The Last Outpost. Without Griffiths, Asteroid Field would not have been created to continue the story. Me? I wrapped up the story I initially wanted to tell in ten episodes. It was only through the encouragement of others that the Accobar System made it past those initial 20 hours. It is for that reason that I have invited many former faces to return - even if it is just for one week only. So far, the response has been a positive one. Names will not be divulged, but hopefully we will have something of a reunion on our hands within a month.
But how should the story be balanced between the three stages of the Accobar System's existence - and is the time right for it to give up it's biggest secret of all? If this is to be a highlight in the last hurrah of this multiverse, then getting it right is going to quite the task, indeed.
