Title: rpgxEF Server Crashes [CLOSED]
Post by: Telex Ferra on January 25, 2014, 03:02:43 PM
Has anyone else noticed a relationship between respawning and crashes on the rpgxEF server?

The timing did seem a bit convenient for this to be the case.

Our server issues have always occurred during mass spawns.

I think the respawn feature (as opposed to spectate, join session) must have some sort of bug in it.

Can we test this more rigorously? Join the server, try one person respawning, two, three, etc..?

I can't say i have noticed that, althought i can imagine respawning wont help stability.

Good Evening, TLO

Basically, I'm coming to you now as an SRP runner, facing a pinch of frustration with our RPG-XEF server.

It appears that, for some reason unbeknownst to me, it is becoming more and more.... moody, to the point that it's almost randomly crashing players to desktop, not allowing people to connect, the works.

I don't know if this is a server issue, or an RPG-XEF issue for the version we're using or what, but when it more or less forces an SRP to start 10 minutes late... it can be a bit agitating. If you (namely pie, or whoever will end up fixing this) want some help, I'm more than willing to meet up with you and try to help find and solve the issues (Tuesday anytime before 5pm EST, and Monday after 6pm EST would be best for me for the next couple days). But the sooner we fix this, the happier SRP runners and participants alike will be :)

Thank you Kindly

So our RPGXEF server was recently given additional protection from denial of service attacks, which could be what's causing the instability. However, the alternative to this would be for us to lose our service with EscapedTurkey because of the extreme data usage these attacks can cause (again, not because the attacks are directed at us - but because our server would be being used as a middleman).

There isn't a ton we can do, but I will think on some options.

It may be worth a try to upgrade to the latest rpgxEF beta. The main reason we stopped using it was instability on Iowa which was a TLO SRP map, but since Martin no longer sues it for GS, that is no longer a problem.
