When the battle with the Dominion commenced, the odds looked grim for Starfleet. The 7th fleet suffered heavy casualties and the Athena had to take dozens of injured crew from disabled or destroyed ships on board before retreating to a nebula. A nebula where they detected a strange signature, during the battle. Inside the nebula, a plane with an unlisted starfleet base on the surface. The base was manned by over 400 crew members, who all suddenly appeared to vanish.
An away team was assembled and send to the planets surface to investigate the base. Captain Marek and Lieutenant Commander Delacourt both took a team to investigate different areas. Captain Mareks team headed to sickbay to find logs of what happened on the base while Ms Delacourts team head out in search of the control room. After searching the apparently desolated base, they arrived at what looked like a research facility. Here, Delacourt accessed the base's database, which appeared to be heavily encryped. The data she could read mentioned the USS Pegasus, an experimental ship from a few years back, but also made not of unknown designations, Sovereign, Luna, Vesta and Excalibur classes.
In the meanwhile, Medical officer Jax noted a console reading the base's structural integrity field generator had been disabled for some reason. When the Captain wanted to investigate, the console overloaded, frying his commbadge in the process. Te team moved on and arrived in a transporter room that had also apparently served as a triage center. Here, Captain Marek established an internal comm link to Delacourts team. He ordered Jax, accompanied by a security officer to join Delacourt while he himself tried to get some information out of the logs of the base. Here, he found the transporter codes to the command center where he transported himself, right after Delacourt detected someone else beaming into the facility.
In the command center, the captain was just in time to see a mysterious figure beam off again. Not soon after the team noticed the self destruct had been triggered, with all internal power systems, including transporters, disabled. The team rushed back to the shuttle, but the Captain was trapped. The shuttle crew desparately tried to resque the captain, but he was lost during transport right as the selfdestruct destroyed the entire complex.
Back on the Athena, Admiral Iwata contacted Delacourt, who, after updating the Admiral on the events of the day, was assigned temporal command of the Athena. On their way to rendezvous with Iwata and the shattered remains of 7th fleet, they detected the strange readings from before again. A cloaked, starfleet, ship was following them, but i was not alone. Another ship appeared to follow in its wake, unbeknownst to the starfleet ship but apparant for the Athena. The unknown starfleet ship took a shot at the Athena, forcing it to drop out of warp and engage in battle. After a few hit and cloack shots, the Athena's crew was able to outsmart the starfleet ship and disable its cloacking device. The ship was revealed to be the USS Excalibur, NX-80000, the same ship mentioned in the now destroyed base's database. Right before the Athana took another hit, the ship tracing the Excalibur decloaked. Dwarfing the Athena, it took a few shots at the Excalibur which quickly retreated. Delacourt and her crew thought they where done for, strangely, the ship only scanned the Athena and disappeared again as fast as it had shown itself.
With both threats gone, the crew focussed on reparing the ship and helping all the injured crew it had picked up. To Delacourt befell the difficult task of informing Captain Marek's wife of his passing and thus started her journey on the road to command..
I hoped you all enjoyed this episode, even though it was an unintended 2-parter, but it turned out good in the end i think. We got to see a side of Delacourt which we didn't see before, and we encountered a large mysterious alien ship, sound familliar, Tenshi?
Ahhhh a new beginning.....As much as it did confuse me slightly to jump back in time and have a sudden influx of dominions I found the episode interesting, not because it answered questions but because it had me asking more. Like What is that ship from season 1 doing here?! What are those crazy federation ships all about?! There are three ships (and four lights) what are they like?! Where are they?! Whose on those ships?!
It surrounds the future of Genesis station with mystery and has me intrigued and wanting to find out answers to all these questions because I want to know the answers they are too interesting!!!
