Title: OFFICIAL RPG-X Reviews: Star Trek: Scientific Mandate
Post by: Telex Ferra on April 13, 2014, 07:12:50 PM
QuoteSRP Name: Star Trek: Scientific Mandate

Episode Name and Number: Season 1, Episode 1

Attendance: Andzzy, SFC3, Andromeda, TalusRoben, jsomani, Lucas Picard (Continuous Disconnection), Mutatio Nomen, Jon Riker, Lipton (9/13)

What Happened: STSM opened with the senior staff aboard a Mobius-class runabout, on approach to their new home and remotely activating and preparing the station for arrival. The crew were briefed and introduced to each other briefly before disembarking and entering the base.

However not long after making ourselves at home, the integrated VI known as "Astra" went haywire, locking down and locking out the station from the crew, and at one point reporting a Klingon warbird and a Tholian weaver on sensors. All attempts to regain control of the station failed while non-essential personnel evacuated back to the runabout as quickly as they came. The symptom was found to be a 'hostile system' lurking in the auxiliary computer core, and at the time of writing the Vi remains offline after unceremoniously rebooting to defaults.

Opinion: The SRP started thirty minutes behind schedule, which meant some people had to leave mid-way. As usual technical difficulties were encountered. While it was not terribly exciting or engaging it served as a good introduction to the series and the players involved. The "Astrid" character was very well played and set the tone for the episode, with unease and apprehension of the apparently rogue VI. The constant hissing of the many doors by players on the map did however impact enjoyment of the episode.
