Captain Mason is separated from her crew as Denara Clarke unleashes a real-but-not-real (yeah, science!) Accobi Assassin on the Athena - already afflicted by a dampening field at the centre of a Class 9 nebula, eating away at the hull and interfering with ship operations. Several members of the crew found themselves in life-threatening situations as Archibald worked to restore system functionality and Costello hunted down the intruder while under Barnes' command.
Clarke claimed that it was a way of showing the crew what they would be up against if the Halkonians failed in their mission. Ultimately, the assassin did claim a life - which was enough to kick everyone in to gear and blow the alien/robot/hologram/projection out of the shuttle bay airlock. For a being said to be able to take out the entire crew with ease, they appear to have got off easily...
...but as the Orion had time to charge it's FTL drives before seemingly heading towards the Tyrella Sector, was it only a time-buying distraction? The real test awaits the crew aboard Pioneer Station.
In Barnes' own words... it begins.
Thank you for attending! A very well attended episode ^-^ Feel free to discuss below!
( p.s. The Twelfth Doctor's theme is now Barnes' theme )
Loved the episode - improvements in attendance were noticeable and made it all the better. Can't wait for next time.
Incidentally, the Interface/Thrace stuff mentioned in the episode overview was originally going to take place between Mason/Clarke on the Bridge - but I chose to drop it as it was tied to Etis, too. Hence Mason's prolonged absence. I'll be picking that up next week - as it's central to the bigger picture.
But it paid off thanks to a great ensemble performance.
