Production Code: 5x09 | AFx55
Episode Title: "The Accobi Resurgence"
Writer: Grizz
Air Date: 11th April 2015

Jemma Etis has resigned, Klingon-Romulan tensions are mounting and Archibald still hasn't fixed the Pioneer Station sign on the Promenade (maybe next week)... but something else is piquing the crew's curiosity. A signal is broadcasting from Accobar III, but nobody has been able to pinpoint the source or decipher the meaning - and the two shuttles sent to investigate both lost power on their approach. However, a series of failed docking maneuvers reveals a growing concern. Pioneer is moving - edging closer and closer to the nearby planet.

Pioneer is leaving the asteroid field and heading towards the planet... at an increasing velocity.

The Accobi Resurgence - Five Teasers

1) It's the first Accobar-centric episode since Pantheon of Accobar. Wonder what happened to that Devilish Accobi Architect glimpsed way back then. (http://www.last-outpost.net/forum/index.php/topic,7506.0.html)

2) With Jemma gone, we're going to need an acting Chief Science officer. If only Asteroid Base: Alpha's original CSO was on board...

3) McClintock is tasked with quite the challenge. One which would probably be a whole lot easier if Pioneer was a starship.

4) "I've authorised use of the tricobalt devices. Prepare two warheads for launch."

5) Could it be him? Surely not. Impossible.

The updated music pack should be out today. As I'll mention in the post - due to the uneven split of episodes, there may not be a full refresh for Season 6 - just a "patch" for new episodic tracks.

An Introduction to 'The Accobi Resurgence'

"If you see somebody with nothing to do, then bloody well give them something to do! Nobody rests until this is over!"

When the season was rejigged, there was room for one more 'standalone' episode - and sorry Q fans, this one beat out Pinkston Showdown (for now).

Though I suppose this isn't entirely standalone, in the way that it very much falls back on the rather major events of Season Four which put the Accobi and Accobar Three on the backburner after their overdue time in the spotlight alongside the Halkonians. This episode isn't here to delve back in to that - but it is a taster of what could yet to be explored, while hinting at the ultimate fate of a former ally.

This all comes about as part of an episode-spanning set piece. Something is broadcasting from Accobar III, and whatever it is seems to be causing Pioneer to be pulled towards the planet. The majority of the episode will be focusing on how the crew deals with this situation and how they might get themselves out of it. The set piece itself has been a possibility for a few seasons now, but I wasn't very confident about it. It's completely absurd - but it might just be a bombastic enough installment to kick-start the back-end of episodes... and there isn't a Director in sight.

Re-opening the Promenade has been on the agenda all season and the crew faced a major roadblock during the mid-season finale. Now it's pretty clear to us that it's not going to get any easier, so why not have fun with that? It's a rather inward-looking idea of how much could possibly go wrong to prevent Mason from achieving her original goal of making Pioneer and Accobar known for something other than it's dangerous and explosive occurrences.

McClintock's flying solo on this one - but by the episode's end, he'll be counting on all of you to pitch in and do you bit to save the station. Anybody for a game of Asteroids?

Enjoy!
