By 19, Foster joined the Starfleet Corps of Engineers and showed a great deal of prowess in piloting the machinery used for the many projects the Engineers took on. Eventually, at the Rank of Chief Petty Officer (after nearly 10 years in the service), Foster Joined the crew of the Ajax. Having served on the Ajax for another 13 years (eventually becoming the Chief Engineer on board) He rose to the rank of Master Chief Petty officer.
When the Ajax incident occurred near Galorndon Core, The Ships Executive Officer, Commander Julia Peters, Assumed Command - and gave Foster a battlefield Promotion to Lieutenant. For Three months, Foster served as acting XO aboard the Ajax. Trapped behind Romulan lines... and desperately trying to return home; Commander Peters ordered all non-essential personnell to escape pods - including Foster. The Ajax worked her way as close to the border as she could, before launching 12 escape pods... filled with more than 64 souls.
Of the 12 escape pods launched, only 3 were recovered on a planetoid in the neutral zone along the Federation Border. 8 people survived the Ajax Incident, including Foster.
Starfleet was both overjoyed and beyond angry at the situation; This proved to be a Diplomatic nightmare, but one they could deal with - never the less as a result of the overall problems, Starfleet made Foster's commission permanent - but reduced him in rank to Lieutenant Junior Grade.
After the Ajax, Foster began Teaching at Starfleet Academy - two years later, he decided that teaching wasn't for him. and decided to move on.
Now, He is assigned to the USS Hercules as Chief Flight Officer a Job he believes could be a new adventure.
