Hello everyone,
RadioActivitii has informed us that he will be stepping down as Media & Marketing head once a replacement has been elected due to time constraints. Please join me in thanking Radio for his service to TLO over the past several months in this position!
This opens up the first Cabinet position since December of last year, so I want to explain for the benefit of our newer members how community elections work.
The Cabinet serves as the legislative body of TLO, and has the power to make group-wide policy, handle matters pertaining to finances, changes to the CoC, setting the group's long term strategies, and to oversee the community as a whole including the performance of specific divisions/departments. Because of the unique responsibilities of a Cabinet member, individuals serve on the Cabinet who head any gaming division or administrative department in TLO, including the Head of Media & Marketing.
TLO is a democratic organization, gaming division or administrative department heads are elected to that position by the members of TLO which in turn makes the Cabinet an elected body with the confidence of the members. For Cabinet positions, any member may run for any open position during an election, but members are encouraged to make sure they can meet the requirements of the position as outlined in the nomination thread. If a member wishes to run for the position, they can put their name forward in the nomination thread located here (http://www.last-outpost.net/forum/index.php?topic=8088).
Once a member is nominated, a Q&A topic is set up for them in the ongoing elections sub-forum. This gives the candidate a chance to give a statement about why they are running for the position, what some of their ideas and visions are for the department/division and why members should vote for them. Members also get the chance to ask questions of the candidates to help them decide how they will vote once the election poll goes up, as long as the questions are on-topic, respectful, and follow the CoC. Q&A topics remain open until the election poll closes, so members have ample opportunities to ask questions of candidates.
After the Q&A topics have been open for a few days, an election poll goes up where members (who hopefully have watched the Q&A threads and maybe have asked a question or two!) can decide which candidate they think is the best fit for the position. If a member changes their mind, they can remove their vote and revote until the election poll closes. Once the poll closes, the candidate with the most votes is elected to the position. If there is a tie, a run-off election is held between the tied candidates until the tie is broken.
Once a member is elected to a Cabinet position, they remain in that position until they resign, retire, are removed by the Cabinet (ie, through expulsion), or are recalled either by the members putting up a poll which passes asking for a new election, or by an Executive Order from the President.
This particular position has the following job description:
"The Media and Marketing head is in charge of all TLO publications and for graphics design. M&M oversees the creation and editing of new signatures. Additionally, M&M is responsible for creating new graphics for use in TLO as required and requested from time to time by gaming/department heads, SRP leaders, etc. M&M is also responsible for maintaining our social media accounts, and should regularly post info related to the group. M&M should also assist other commanders in publicizing happenings in their general areas to the community at large, as well as providing support for recruitment efforts."
If you are interested in the position and believe you can meet its requirements as laid out in the job description, please feel free to put your name forward in the nomination thread (http://www.last-outpost.net/forum/index.php?topic=8088). Being a member of the Cabinet is a unique way to become involved in shaping this community and having your voice heard in a very direct way. Serving as head of a department such as M&M can also be a very rewarding way to give back to the community and gain valuable experience.
If you have any questions about this position, the elections process, or anything else related to this matter, please don't hesitate to contact me. I wish everyone the best of luck in the upcoming election, and thank RadioActivitii for his service.
Signed,
Jenson
