Title: RPG-X UI Design Contest - Get Your Design Into The Next Version of RPG-X!
Post by: Telex Ferra on May 09, 2016, 11:13:59 PM
Hello everyone!

After looking through some of the UI code in the RPG-X source, I feel it wouldn't be too difficult to put a fresh coat of paint over the menu designs in RPG-X. I know that many of you who lack the programming expertise want to contribute to RPG-X development but weren't sure how, so now for those of you who are artistically inclined, there IS a way you can help out!

We are looking for re-colors of all of RPG-X's menus. That includes, but isn't limited to:
- Turbolift menu
- Transporter menu
- main menu
- settings menu
- admin menu

Everything with color on these menus can be changed, including the text. If you're not a fan of the blue, orange, and yellow theme, now is your chance to change the RPG-X color scheme and leave your mark on the game forever!

Once submissions have ended, TLO as a whole will vote on the new design and determine whether or not it should replace the original colors.

How do I submit an entry to the competition?

Submit screenshots of your proposed color scheme to the RPG-X Development forum in its own thread (http://www.last-outpost.net/forum/index.php?board=414.0). Please submit your scheme with a name so that it's easier to poll. (Cool names also draw more attention!) A submission can just be several image files that you've put through an image editor. The more images you submit of different menus, the better RGB values for the menu will be taken directly from the winner's entry, so ensure there is no loss of color when saving and uploading your file.

What are the rules for submissions?

There are very few rules; I would like everyone to try to be creative with this. That being said:
- We are only looking for a re-color, not a re-arrangement. All menus, buttons, text etc. need to stay in the same place they are now.
- Fewer colors (< 30) is preferable to picking a different color for each and every button in the game. For every color in your submission I will need to add it into the code, so please keep your designs limited to no more than 30 distinct colors.

What does the winner get?

Their color scheme on all the RPG-X menus for the foreseeable future.

When is the submission deadline?

All submissions should be in by Monday May 30 at 11:59pm EDT.

I don't think so. Let's keep the current font.

Just wondering, is this still happening?

Can you change the font?

Yes and no. Changing the font requires a huge effort since the font is a hardcoded graphic. It "could" be done IF the new font has exactly the same sized characters as the old one. Then you could replace the graphic in question.

It's definitely still happening. We're allowing submissions for quite a while so feel free to put some/more in!
