Early Life:
Wilcox was born in the only major city on Europani, a colony of 250,000 on the edge of the Argellius sector and not far from Romulan space. He lives here up until the age of 17. His mother is a school teacher and his father is a scientist studying the unusual and rare fauna on the planet – a vocation he very much wants his son to join him in.
Whilst most of the planet's inhabitants are either miners or scientists, there is a large piracy and smuggler presence on the planet itself, which has flowed over from the nearby Argellius system. Europani's small size and relative unimportance (and abundance of locations away from the major settlement) makes it an ideal location for lots of shady deals.
Aboard Firefly:
Wanting a more exciting life, Wilcox runs away from his family and joins a pirate crew aboard the SS Firefly. He is taken under the wing of the ships head of security. He soon becomes the security head's second in command and during his second year aboard the Firefly, his mentor is killed during a firefight with a rival gang. His mentor hands the ship's security to Wilcox as he dies.
The Firefly's captain upholds this decision.
This does not last long, during a run in Argellius, Firefly is scanned by a Federation patrol. The captain refuses to surrender and orders fire against the Federation vessel.
Despite only being a Light Cruiser, the Federaton ship severely outguns Firefly and disables her after a few seconds of battle and kills most of the ship's bridge staff.
As Firefly's warp core fails, he is able to evacuate the ship to the Argellius outpost and manuvers her away from major shipping lanes and the station. The Federation vessel saves him just before Firefly is lost.
The Academy:
Wilcox is left in her brig for a few hours, after some time he gets a visit from the ship's captain, Elizabeth Laird - a member of one of the original Hazard Teams.
She is impressed both by his tactical skill and by the fact he tried to do the right thing by almost sacrificing himself. Obviously there are charges being filed against him and the rest of the surviving crew.
Laird offers him a deal: go to the academy, join Starfleet and make a difference. Or rot in a jail cell having never really accomplished anything.
Wilcox takes the deal and enrols in the academy. Due to his background, he is trouble at first in the academy but his direct commanding officer takes Wilcox under his wing and hammers proper military training and discipline into him.
Midway through the second year, Wilcox is thriving, achieving top in his class. Happy with his progress, the academy moves him to the accelerated 'Hazard Team' program.
Service:
With growing concerns over war with the Klingon Empire, Wilcox and several other members of his squad are moved to beta team aboard the USS Andromeda, a Sovereign class vessel just 6 months after Wilcox joins the program.
The Andromeda is ordered to monitor the situation near the Klingon border.
As open war begins, Andromeda is right on the front line defending Korvat. Her entire Alpha squad is killed during the battle but their sacrifice means many civilians (including most the Korvat government) escape.
As a result, Beta team becomes Alpha - Wilcox becomes head scout and third in command of the team.
During 2406, the Hazard team take on several missions against the Klingons during the fight for the Archanis sector. Andromeda is soon shown to be an ineffective delivery vessel for the team and after she takes heavy damage in a battle during 2407, the team is reassigned to a new 'Blockade runner' class vessel (based on the steam runner class) named the USS Heart of Iron.
The Hazard team and their new ship become a specialised 'strike' team. They undertake several missions, the most major being the defence of Cestus III during which they lead several successfully ground campaigns.
In 2409, the HoI is assigned to the Alpha quadrant and to combat the True Way. Several members of the Team, including Wilcox, are transferred to the USS Archimedes (a Luna class vessel) in the Delta Quadrant. They are once again to act as a Hazard team, Wilcox now it's second in command.
In Sept 2409, Archimedes is attacked and boarded by the Vaadwaur. The hazard team is instrumental in defending Archimedes. During the battle, Wilcox is severely injured after taking two polaron bursts to the chest.
He just survives after medical intervention, but is no longer fit to serve in the Hazard team. As such, he is promoted to Lieutenant JG and becomes the Assistant Chief of Security aboard the Archimedes whilst he recovers.
Archimedes becomes a crucial ship during the fight against the Vaadwaur and is present at many major battles, including the final battle.
As the Amarante crew is picked, Wilcox is picked due to his Delta Quadrant experience as well as his advanced tactical knowledge due to his time in the Hazard Team. He is promoted to Lieutenant and becomes the Amarante's head of security.
