The Forge Embassy / The Forge - Block Party!
« on: July 09, 2019, 07:22:04 pm »
So I've mentioned before about wanting to work with some of our neighboring communities on throwing a Block party once things start settling down over at The Forge. Well, we're in full swing, starting our planning now, and would love to hear any suggestions you would like to see.,101.msg434.html#new

You're all invited, and we'd love to have you from start to finish :)

Ahoy neighbors! Good luck to you in the "construction" phase! :)
Thank you Jenson.

Just as an update, we're already starting to plan out our block party, and would love to work with you all to help organize some joint excursions during it :)

We're planning for the 19th - 21st of July, looking at a variety of games and events (still EARLY planning, and don't want to do much yet without getting some input from the neighbors)

So, if you're interested, let me know, and we'll add your heads to our own for the planning, etc.

So as some of you all may be aware, over the last couple of months The Daedalus Community has become a thing of the past. In its place, we have rebranded ourselves - established some new rules, and are currently in the middle of an election cycle at our new home "The Forge"

Our home can be found here (I'm a link) (and any old Daedalus link can still be used, it'll redirect you to where you need to go :P )

While we're still a bit in limbo pending the conclusion of our election, We still wanted to stop in and say hi to our neighbors, and beg their forgiveness for the construction noises next door.

I'll be pushing for a big "Block party" of sorts once we're finished. In the meantime, We set up an embassy for TLO here -,15.0.html and I'm sure we'd love to collaborate sometime soon :)

Now if you'll excuse me, that pool isn't going to dig itself :P

Set in_mouse to 1 (instead of the default of -1) in your hmconfig

Just wanted to poke you all again, we're nearly all together again. And we're running our first event(s) this weekend! If you hear loud noises coming from down the hall, please don't call the landlord :P

I'm hoping we can work together to strengthen RPG-X, perhaps put our heads together to find ways to improve activity across the board. I'd love to have a chat sometime, and bounce ideas around.

In any event - we're here neighbor, if you need anything.

Good Afternoon, TLO

As some of you may know, I had to take a brief hiatus from just about everything while I battled some health problems last year. as a result, I had to shut down just about everything - including the Daedalus community.

Well, long story short. We're back! (I'm a link) (And I'm feeling much better now).

Progress is slow, I'm working on it. But the site is up, being populated, and we're planning our first event to air next weekend.

I even re-opened the TLO Embassy (Also a link) - feel free to advertise your events, say hi - do whatever! It's your space, let me know how I can help you best utilize it :)

There are some exciting things on the horizon! And we look forward to sharing them with the whole of the RPG-X Community.

and on a deeply personal note, it's good to be back. I've missed TLO, Daedalus, and RPG-X as a whole.

Hope to see you out there.

I've been doing this a long time, I've never seen this message before - something to do with 2.4?

I seem to also recall that rpg_voy4 is/was one of those maps that sometimes wouldn't load locally? Just to make sure, have you tried it from the server side?

Oh, I forgot!

A new map for RPG-X is in the works!

Hope you don't mind a link to where I'm sharing images, and updates:

Firstly, now that we have an embassy, does this mean I can drive really fast on the wrong way of a one way street while blaring Justin Bieber and Nickelback and claim diplomatic immunity when I'm caught?

Secondly: - a link to our website

and Thirdly, a link to TLO's little corner:

Feel free to post about upcoming events, SRPs, etc. I'm sure we'd love to hear about them, and take part.

I also hope that the same could be said in the other direction too.

With that said, let's keep each other in the know, and keep working on RPG-X!

Thank you

(One more note, the site is improving, but slowly - I have no experience doing this stuff, but I'm trying - so let me know if you have issues, and I appreciate your patience :) )

jspaced, I missed you questions - I'm sorry about that!

To answer both of your questons, yes.

The camera thing is something I have mixed success with, but it's something 'm using right now in a map I'm working on, so far - it's behaving :). I do plan on touching on that semi-soon.

As for skybox - I did this trick on Nova, by using a target_alert. The trick here is to make sure that you have a solid box that isn't affected by the entity (and I'll go into more detail, and can certainly touch on that a bit too soon-ish).

The Embassy / Re: Daedalus

Firstly, I apologize for the double post. I usually try to avoid those when possible.

However, I did want to bump this and share a little more detail about what we're trying to do.

Part of the reason why the Daedalus community exists is to allow me the freedom to try to do something ambitious.

RPG-X is well over 10 years old. There are a number of people within the Greater RPG-X Community (GRC) that believe it's hit it's peak, it'll never grow again, and it's on it's way to death.

The same things has been said about countless other games, that I see played by hundreds, if not thousands, every day.

In my home town, there are very successful shops, where retro games are sold (That's their entire business model). Games such as minecraft are living proof that content matters more than graphics. From the view of the world that I'm seeing, RPG-X has a place in modern gaming.

Better still, it's freely available, thanks to all in one installers that have been created with permission from Raven, and CBS/Paramount and freely distributed by surviving RPG-X groups.

The key issue with RPG-X today; is a lack of content creators, and a lack of a central community.

I can count on one hand the number of map makers I know are still around. Me, Motoko (Sparky - who is only seemingly semi-active), Griffin Endurance (or so I assume) and Martin Thompson (who, is supposedly semi-retired).

I can't think of a single model maker, maybe Serris? Though he's not actively making new models (to my knowledge)

The point is - nobody is trying to make new content, probably for various reasons. But if the time were taken to learn how to do this, the community would have a new generation of content creators at their disposal, and new life could rise as a result.

The next problem though, is a lack of a central hub.

In the old days, we had effiles and ubergames to share content, ask questions, and generally act as a hub for knowledge for RPG-X. Using ubergames, you could find which RPG-X group was created this week, and decide whether or not you wanted to take part.

Today, you have to google it, and hope they're active. In short, RPG-X players are scattered because we lost our promised land. I would love to see ubergames come back to life, and become that hub again - but until it does, I hope that this can serve that purpose, temporarily.

Daedalus is simply a passion of mine. I'm using it as a platform to A. Tell my story and B. try to rebuild and support RPG-X. I hope other communities can consider this neutral ground - a place to meet and share Community Building initiatives, to advertise community events, and to ultimately help the lonely RPG-X players out there realize that they are not alone, and help them find a home.

I would love for TLO to join us on this journey.
