What is Star Trek: Asteroid Field?

Considering this roleplay's obvious connection to the Asteroid Base series, I feel it would be appropriate to provide an OOU view of what this SRP actually is and how accessible it is to newcomers to this world.

Star Trek: Asteroid Base set out to tell a very serialised tale, especially in it's second season. The Illuminati storyline dominated every episode and it played out on a massive scale. The corruption of the Government and senior Starfleet figures, the uprising of outlying worlds and the day-to-day disasters taking place on the station and the USS Athena. Occasionally we dipped our toes in to the 'behind-the-scenes' activities of all which took place, but it was never fully explored. Asteroid Base saw our characters frequently forced react to absurd events beyond their control. Asteroid Field puts a mostly new set of characters as the decision makers and the forerunners of such major events.

A number of members requested that we saw more of what President Taylor promised when she was appointed and whether she succeeding in restoring a certain balance to the Federation. Although we're still very much out in the distant Accobar System, we're going to be tied back to the politics of the Asteroid Base universe. Renee Hampton is a senior figure in the Taylor administration - so we're going to be exploring that side of things in much greater detail.

At it's core, however, the focus will remain on the Accobar System and further out, the Tyrella Sector. Pioneer Station will see breakthroughs in science and research fields. It will be the destination for arriving delegates from distant worlds, allies and enemies alike. Peace treaties, trade negotiations, aid missions, refugees and all the trials and tribulations which come with such circumstances and events. All of this alongside the continuation of the mystery which shrouds the Accobar Civilisation and why they simply vanished, leaving minimal trace of their advanced technology behind.

This is not just an SRP for members of Asteroid Base. It's reliance on previous knowledge will be minimal so you won't have to read pages of background info to get involved. Should any questions need answering, there will be plenty of people willing to answer. While Asteroid Field may not look all that different on the outside, it's going to feel rather different once we launch.
