Special Elections

Hello everyone,

As members are aware, there have recently been some conflicts among the Senate concerning what direction TLO should move towards in the future. This has prompted me to call for early elections, which the Senate has agreed to via a 2/3rds vote.

This will be the first election in TLO's history that has been called over a specific issue. There are several different visions of what TLO ought to be and how we should steer it, and it's up to you all to decide who you are going to elect to the Senate to help shape that future.

I have decided to reduce the number of Senators to 7 in order to address problems that have arisen this term with "too many cooks in the kitchen". A consequence of this is that this election will be much more competitive than previous elections where there have been only 1-2 more candidates than the number of seats available.

This puts a great deal of responsibility on us as members, not only in electing the seven people we think will do the job best and who we feel have the best vision for TLO, but also in asking important questions to our candidates and challenging them to give answers to important questions concerning the future of this community.

With this in mind, I have extended the usual period of time between the opening of notations and the opening of the election poll so that nominations and Q and As will run side by side giving members more time to ask questions of the candidates. I strongly encourage ALL members to ask questions to our candidates, and not to be afraid of asking them to articulate their vision for this community. I encourage everyone to watch those Q and A topics closely, and to base their votes heavily on what is said in those topics.

More information about this election and the timeline for elections can be found in Executive Order 20. I look forward to seeing what the next Senate will bring to the table, and wish all of our candidates the very best.
