Minecraft: The One Rule

The Last Outpost's Minecraft server has been developed by members, for members. We're bringing this service to all of you for your enjoyment. To that end, and since the server is currently whitelisted for members only, we have only one simple, all-encompassing rule:

Don't be a dick.

By this, we mean that you should never do something which you know will negatively impact the gameplay experience of another player. That means no griefing. No stealing. No using exploits or glitches to give yourself an advantage. PVP is not specifically disallowed, but if another player isn't interested in fighting you, don't try to force them. In general, ask yourself: "Is what I'm about to do going to make someone else's day worse?" If the answer is yes, don't do it. Simple as that.

The punishment for violations of this rule is equally simple: Your name will be removed from the whitelist for a duration of time specified by the Minecraft staff (or TLO's Internal Affairs department if the infraction is serious enough). That means you can't play. For first incidents or relatively low-key issues, your ban won't be long - maybe a couple days or a week. However, repeatedly violate the rules (yes, even in small ways) or do something exceptionally malicious and your ban can become very long (three to six months) or even permanent. Bans can be appealed (with ample evidence) via a post on this forum.

The various admins of the Minecraft server (currently Veritas, Chris Wilkinson, Jenson, and Klaw) have absolute and final authority while on the server. The place to debate them, explain your side of the story, or otherwise complain is via the forums or instant messaging after doing whatever they've told you to do. You're allowed to disagree with the admins, you're just not allowed to disobey them while you're on the server. To repeat as clearly as possible: Do what the admins tell you to. Failure to follow their requests will result in a ban. Yes, even if you think they've gotten it wrong. Yes, even if you think they're abusing their power. Yes, even if you don't understand why they're asking you to do it. Just do it.

Finally, some odds and ends: Anything which violates TLO's Code of Conduct automatically violates The One Rule; be familiar with it. All players are equal, banned or otherwise - seeking "vengeance" against another player will not be tolerated (we may permit the removal of structures built by banned players if and only if their ban is permanent). Yes, you can request that players keep out of your areas, but no, you may not force them to do so. If a player is doing something you believe violates the Rule, the correct thing to do is contact the admins, preferably with logs and screenshots as proof. Never seek to solve the problem on your own.

If the Rule seems harsh, that's because it is meant to dissuade you from doing anything which causes others to have less fun than you. How harsh we are in enforcing the Rule will depend strongly on how well (or how poorly) people on the server behave.

We hope you enjoy your time on the Minecraft server. Thanks for reading through.

Questions or comments on The Rule can be PMed to me and/or Chris Wilkinson.
