"'I'm a woman!"

Armed with alien tech and having incapacitated Captain Mason, an intruder aboard Pioneer proceeded to venture between the departments and both distract and replace several crew members along the way. Our incognito visitor spent the night on reconnaissance and intelligence gathering before stumbling out of the CO's quarters and exploring the station, come morning. A somewhat shambolic appearance in Operations piqued Costello's interest almost immediately. Though the imposter was quick to remove him(her)self from the area.

"'Craig... can I call you Craig?"

The fake Mason was soon knocking at Rogan's door, distracting him long enough to steal his appearance - a facade that he could use to get close to other members of the crew such as Jemma Etis in the science lab. With Security now concerned about the Captain, the intruder switched back and forth between roles to cause several distractions before finding his ultimate target. Getting touchy-feely with Craig McClintock got the would-be thief a closer look at Engineering and the computer core - aswell as McClintock's form. This also allowed him to cause further confusion within the ranks with contradictory orders such as taking the long range sensors down to perform diagnostics. A convenience occurrence. That's not to mention scrambling comm channels, redirecting computer requests and apparently shutting down the turbolifts (*cough*).

"There's a situation with the fusion core!"
"What kind of situation?"
"I'm stealing it!"

Nevertheless, Costello was closing in and the window for the unwelcome doppelganger was soon going to be shut - so proceedings came to an abrupt conclusion as he lured McClintock in to a secluded area of Engineering and took him out of the equation. Fake McClintock quickly set about staging an incident, evacuating the section and sealing off the department. Ignoring the computer's warning, he initiated the Fusion Core Ejection Sequence without proper preparation and sent the core assembly hurtling through a purposefully clear channel of the Asteroid Field - designed to protect Pioneer & Accobar in the event of a breach. With the core free of the station, the intruder announced his departure and beamed away from Engineering.

"'fit the [REDACTED]?!"

With the station plunged in the darkness, with systems failing across the board, the real McClintock regained consciousness to the sound of multiple alerts piercing the airwaves and a strangely vacant fusion core housing - with a closed blast shield in place of a familiar vibrant light. His undeniably appropriate final words (and most likely the only F-bomb dropped in Asteroid Field's run  :P) must have summed up the mood as an alien ship was revealed to be lying in wait at the edge of the asteroid field, ready to take hold of the core assembly and blast off out of view.

It seemed an awful lot of trouble to retrieve the fusion core and one has to question the purpose. He did seem keen on the crew actually going after him - an act which is sure to take place. What could possibly go wrong?

Heheh. I am proud to be a mere precursor of things to come. Boldly go and all that.. :P

Would it be too obvious to say this is my favourite episode (so far)?

Good episode this one. A bit short on time but not on suspense at the end there! McClintocks impersonation was especially strong and the scene in the computer core is one for the history books haha.

The discrepancy in sensor readings from that super nova Pioneer has been monitoring for a few weeks to assist the USS Saturo got Jemma to check out some of the engineering logs which may or may not have confused our dear chief of engineering even more. She was just about to view footage of the shuttlebay before the shuttle crash from Season 4 "The Siege" when Dr Rogan walking and the conversation spun a different direction. I wonder where that padd ended up when the station got beaten up by the sudden disconnection of the fusion core...
