However, news had broke out that the Klingons and the Federation were at war after the klingons withdrew from the Khitomer Accords. Fortunates normal cargo runs where changed and Dezrins parents were tasked with sending supplies to Federation Colonies along the Klingon Boarder. During a run to K-7 Starbase, the Fortunate was attacked by a bird of prey and heavily damaged. Ship disabled she was rescued by a Starfleet vessal, however the casualties were heavy and Dezrins father was killed.
With starfleet loosing ships and officers, Dezrin signed up during Starfleets latest effort to recruit and with his background and experience gained he was given a field commission of ensign and assigned as security on a Starfleet ship. Dezrins career in Starfleet continued to advanced and when war broke with the Dominion, Dezrin was part of a ground force to protect Betazed from the Dominion.
After the withdraw from Betazed, Dezrin was reassigned to a front line Federation vessel and continued to serve until the end of the war. With what he endured and witnessed during his service in Starfleet, Dezrin took an extended leave of absence, wanting a change of pace he looked to what he new best, Cargo Vessels.
