It seemed appropriate to leave a few thoughts about how the first season of this spectacular SRP. In the other thread I left a few notes about the transition between Asteroid Base and Asteroid Field and I felt that it simply wouldn't be appropriate to tack an essay onto an essay. So here it is, the first season of Asteroid Field.

Everyone who remembers Asteroid Base remembers what it was like. Week after week we fought for our lives, we were nearly destroyed, and I'm certain we all died at least once. When Asteroid Field was announced there was one element that would mean a sorting: it would take place in the Accobar system. The Accobar system where our characters grew up, where they took shape, and where they meant something. In this regard, there were only two questions: where do I sign up? || can my character transfer?

And so it came to be that Tim Rogan, Daniel Thrace, Michael Barnes, and Jack Willis all ended up aboard Pioneer Station. What a remarkable journey it has been. From the President's coronation to the Accobarian warnings to the drama surrounding the mysterious G'rath, we all knew we were in for a discovery. The Accobar system grew new life with every episode and we didn't even have to be on our good ol' station to have it happen.

The journey has been quite something. President Taylor was declared the President of the United Federation of Planets. Of course, that daft fool Rogan had the guts and stupidity to call her Ms. Taylor before the entire Senior Staff (admit it Grizz, you thought it was witty ;D). Naturally he will more than likely face weekly death as per the status quo. But all joking aside, the President hasn't really played the largest role in our lives so let's not get hung up focusing on her and her accomplishments. There are more important people to thank.

Doctor Renee Hampton. A civilian. I think sometimes we might forget that she really was just a civilian leader. A leader who headed the Pioneer Project for quite some time. Well, untli G'rath got her anyway. Hampton has been nothing but fair to us in everything that she's done. She tried to protect us at all costs and now the cost is that she herself is gone. To have the SRP Leader suspiciously absent until now and then possibly dead... could there be big characters on the horizon?

Mark Chaplain... yup that's it.

Joking, joking. Chaplain is absolutely the new guy on the block. The Starfleet man assigned under the civilian leader. He has always been kind and caring towards Hampton and just as fair as her when it comes to the rest of the crew. He's a natural leader and I imagine it takes a great deal of effort to RP so many types in one person. Griffiths must be applauded for his efforts so far.

Everyone who participates in Asteroid Field is absolutely amazing. Grizz says it week after week but really you guys are what makes the plots go 'round. Do you think everything is scripted that happens out there on the RP Field? The answer is that no it isn't. Your characters shape the plot. They shape, well, just about everything. Your interactions with Bob in Engineering could shape a friendship that could be torn apart nurtured and strengthened with the help of the writer's tools. The main thing to take out of this is that who you are in the RP defines the RP. You help shape the story you're in and you guys really get that. It's truly a marvelous thing to see.

To end off I will say this: In the short time that Asteroid Field has had to captivate me, it has done it. I look forward to it more than TV, more than Games, more than the ordinary day at school (where I design Video Games!). You want a reason to join or stay in Asteroid Field? You really need not look far.
