Analysis: As a young child Chiba always had an interest in space and while as a child he never left Earth he always wanted to travel to the stars. He looked through every book he could find on the subject and as soon as he was able too he began to study constantly so that he would have the grades to be able to apply to Starfleet Academy.

As a child he also took lessons in martial arts and gained a purple belt in Judo and reached the third Dan in Kendo.

His parents were supportive of his goals and did everything that was in their power to help him. As his parents worked in engineering oriented fields they began to teach him what they could as well so that he would follow as closely in their footsteps as possible.

After graduating from the academy he was transferred to the USS Trial where he served as an engineering officer for two years working primarily on the computer systems as he had an aptitude for that area of engineering.

Personality: Chiba is a quiet person who is extremely analytical. He would rather look at a problem that work with people on occasion but does enjoy the company of people that he knows well. He tends to think carefully before he presents a plan to his superiors as he would rather be able to give them a full explanation than have to come up with everything on the spot.

While he does generally appear to be an uninviting person due to his quiet nature, given time he will begin to open up and interact a lot more.
