Personality:  Tabor is an extremely passionate and intelligent man who has done well in his Starfleet career. His dedication to his work has allowed him to rise quickly through the ranks of Starfleet. His upbringing in a monastery has greatly enhanced his spiritual and philosophical mind, and allows him to look at things with a very unique perspective. Often times, this perspective has caused him to act strongly to those who are not familiar with him. Also although these traits that give him strength also give him problems as he easily becomes obsessed in his work, and often leads him to lose touch with those around him.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Tabor is an extremely intelligent man who has a unique mind that brings a unique approach to solving problems. His unorthodox ways of dealing with psychological issues has allowed him to address his clients' seemingly impossible challenges with a simple, yet unpredictable, methodology. In addition, Tabor has a very warm personality that makes those around him feel comfortable (once they get over his initial strangeness), and helps him greatly in dealing with his clients. He is able to handle administrative challenges quite well, and runs a strong department. In addition, Tabor is an extremely hard worker who devotes all of his time and effort into dealing with any challenge that may arise.

Tabor is a heavy drinker who routinely drinks on duty, much to the chagrin of his superiors. Additionally, his eccentric personality can also scare away people who do not know him well. His appreciation for the unorthodox sometimes borders on excess, and doesn't allow him to see the obvious way forward. Tabor also has difficulty expressing his emotions to others, and often hides his true feelings from others creating more problems than it solves. He is also in a continuing process of trying to determine whether or not he should remain in Starfleet or return to his monastic order--causing some tensions between his personal life and career.

Hobbies & Interests: Tabor is a very spiritual man, and during his free time he can often be found meditating around various parts of the station. As the only Bajoran crewmember aboard with formal religious training, Tabor also leads religious services for the Bajoran crewmembers on the Holodeck every week.

Tabor is also fascinated by music, both in traditional and unorthodox ways. He often enjoys climbing to a section of deck 8 where the Jefferies tubes meet in a secluded intersection to sing Bajoran, Human, and Klingon opera, various Human show tunes, or to chant both (both Bajoran and Gregorian hymns). He is also fascinated by the different sounds of the station, and can occasionally be found meditating in several unique areas such as the fusion generator control room, the deuterium injectors, near the deflector array, near EPS junctions, etc.. When confronted by new crewmembers who are not aware of his unusual appreciation for the sounds of the station, he simply replies that he is "listening to the symphony that surrounds us."

Tabor is fascinated by the objects that surround him, and in what little free time he has, he often enjoys taking things apart and putting them back together. He often says that he feels he better "understands" an object once he has had a chance to do this.

Additionally, Tabor enjoys spy novels on the holodeck, as well as a good performance of Gilbert and Sullivan--especially the Pirates of Penzance, which he often sings frequently around the station.

Background: Tabor was born on Bajor in the Kendra province to Jol and Ramal Laren during the final years of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. His Father, Jol, was a Prylar at a local assembly. Fearing for his son's safety during the difficult times of the occupation, he arranged for Tabor to be sent to a monastery when he was four. A year later, the Bajoran resistance attacked a Cardassian stronghold in the Kendra Valley, which resulted in bloody reprisal from the occupation authorities. Tabor's mother, Ramal, was rounded up in the ensuing executions in response to this attack, and was executed with 43 other Bajorans in what would become known as the Kendra Valley Massacre. His devastated father left the local assembly, and joined the monastery to be with his son, and kept from him the knowledge of his mother's fate.

As he grew into his teenage years, Tabor continued his studies at the monastery and was installed as a novice within the order, and was expected to become a Ranjen. When he turned 16, his father finally told him the truth about what had happened to his mother. Devastated, Tabor left the monastery angry with his father for not telling him about his mother's fate, and stayed in seclusion for a year. Finally, Tabor joined the Bajoran militia, vowing to continue protecting the Bajor his mother died for.

Several years later, Bajor became a member of the United Federation of Planets. As a talented officer within the militia, Tabor was given the choice of receiving a Starfleet commission. After careful consideration, Tabor felt as though it was time to go beyond Bajor and explore the stars, and accepted an officer's commission as an engineer aboard the USS. Plato. Although Tabor displayed some aptitude for engineering, he found himself having progressively less passion for the field, and wanted to find an area where he could help people and not technology. He applied for, and was accepted, into a special program in Starfleet to train new counselors. After completing this program, he was assigned to DS12 as an assistant counselor. He was eventually re-assigned to Pioneer Station as the chief counselor.
