Mail Server Update:

If you sync your TLO mail account to a desktop client or your phone, you will need to update your IMAP and SMTP server host.  It will now only sync/send mail when both are set to spicy.last-outpost.net

No other changes to the configuration were made, once the above change is made in your client you should once again be able to send/receive mail.

Migration Update:

Site migration mostly complete, just tidying up and squashing a few bugs, expect instability for roughly 12-24 hours, please report any bugs you notice to me.

Mail Server migration in progress, currently no TLO mail is being sent while I continue to configure the server.  All accounts and mailboxes are now on the new server, it's making them all work as they should.  Hoping to have full mail server functionality restored in the next 24-48 hours.

Minor service disruptions will be beginning from now, mainly focused on the mail server side of things.  No full outage of the site or services will happen until 11AM.

Website Migration Update:
Planned website outage for migration to new server on Thursday 1st September @ 11AM BST lasting 24-48 hours depending on DNS propagation.

The TLO mail server will be down during this time also for migration to the new server.  TLO Mail account holders may notice they lose previous emails saved in their inbox, this will only be temporary and they should all be restored after the maintenance is complete, if there are any emails you'd like to backup please do so yourselves before this date, though no data loss should occur.

A couple of days ago our host gave notice that our current servers will be taken offline within the month due to them phasing out support for the OpenVZ virtualisation.

As a result TLO will be undergoing server migrations and maintenance over the next few weeks, most of the moves should go unnoticed as old servers hand over to new, though you may notice brief periods of server downtime due to the way DNS propagates.

The TLO website will be moving to a new server also, and I will announce within the next 48 hours the plans for the site migration as this will cause downtime as old databases are made read only to prevent any data loss during the move.

Below is a list of servers that will be moving and their current status:

Any servers currently migrating may experience performance loss, downtime, and brief periods of limited availability due to DNS, servers awaiting migration are running on the old servers, and servers migrated should be functioning normally at their new home.

I am taking this opportunity to also update server OS' and software to the latest long term support options to prevent us having any planned extended maintenance again in the near future.

I will keep this thread updated with any relevant information regarding the migrations.

I'm also curious; CBS likes to go around snuffing out any unlicensed fan projects. Do you have some sort of special permission from them or have just managed to stay below the radar over all these years? Especially since you distribute Holomatch for free as well, given that GOG had a spate of releases of old Trek titles recently (which happens to be the impetus for finding my way back to this community).

We have an agreement that allows us to distribute them for free, @Serris knows more than I do about the agreement, I wasn't around when it was made.

Forum upgrade has introduced several new bugs across the site

After a forum upgrade there have been a number of new bugs introduced, mainly on sections of the forum that would show moderator controls or quick reply buttons, this is due to a call for a new template being introduced that we didn't have in our forum theme.

It is likely that there are still more bugs lurking around, if you notice anything unusual, such as pages not loading or half loading (like loading the first message of a list or topic but nothing else), please report the page to me directly and I will update the theme files to include whatever function is missing.

If you have TFA enabled, you may need to ask myself or another member of cabinet to reset it for you as a couple of the TFA keys have been corrupted in the upgrade.

Welcome to TLO!

Hey guys, I was wondering if a fix/patch was ever worked out for this bug? I downloaded RPG-X earlier today to play with friends and whenever we shot each other, the server crashed.

Sadly it wasn't.  The best work around is to run two clients, set one up as a dedicated server and use the other one to play from, the issue is the server host being shot, with the server host not being a playable character it removes that issue.

If you need any help setting up a client as a dedicated server, just drop me a message and I will help you out.

Just a quick notice.

I have reimplemented our spam protection form the older version of our forum, so I'm hoping that will stop most if not all all the spam posts popping up by stopping any spam accounts from even being able to register.

As the protection from this hasn't been functioning as well as we'd like for a while, I have gone ahead and review every account registration since the forum upgrade, over 100 accounts have been banned as they were flagged as spam by our external spam database.

If you or someone you know has been banned as a result of this, please ask them / email technical[at]last-outpost[dot]net from the email address used to register the account and let us know.  All accounts banned as a result of this have the ban reason as 'Spam Bot', if the reason is stated as anything else please follow the standard ban appeal procedure.

Registrations have been fixed.  Forum upgrade caused more problems than it fixed, currently working through and fixing all the permission errors and site integration.

If you find something not working right, please report in the #support channel of Discord if it's not already been mentioned.

There will be short downtime of the forums from 2AM (UTC) Friday 15th January 2021 for a software upgrade.

This is to attempt to fix a major issue with registrations on the forum.

In the meantime if you are wanting to register an account, please email technical@last-outpost.net with your email and username you wish to use and I will manually register you.
